I have an opportunity to pick up one of these for a fair price. Wondering what THR members think of Ed Brown 1911s in general, the Executive Carry in particular, and the 9mm variant specifically?

Thanks

I had three .45 Browns which I traded for some Wilson's and one Brown that I've kept; Brown makes a fine gun and I think you'll be happy with it. Also have three 9mm 1911s from Wilson and Guncrafter, but none from Brown; a 1911 in 9mm is almost like cheating. So little recoil, so fast back on target and quite a bargain when buying ammo.

Brown's models really only differ in checkering. I found the EC skip checkering to be attractive, and OK in grippiness; neither too harsh nor too smooth.

I have a couple friends who have Browns and they are great shooting 1911s, not sure at the asking price if I would buy one or not. I've heard quite a few stories of them being real jerks when it comes to customer service. Heard many about Les Baer as well but I bought one anyways.

Is it proportionally sized down to 9x19 cartridge or is it just stupid .45ACP with thick 9x19mm barrel installed. If it same size as .45ACP version I would definitely pass.

I typically like my 1911s in 9mm. and .38 Super slightly smaller than the full size 1911; more like Commander size. But I certainly would be interested in an Ed Brown gun if the price was right.

I have a 9mm Ed Brown carry model. It has been flawless and really fun to shoot. I have several Ed Brown pistols and their customer service is second to none. Normal turnaround time on service work is less than two weeks. Understand that this is not Smith & Wesson and Brown will not send you a prepaid shipping label (on them) everytime you think there is something wrong with your pistol; but if there is a defect caused by them, they will make it right and pay the shipping.

In that case, if the price was decent, I would get it. Would love to add an Ed Brown pistol to the collection.

In terms of service for the customer, after the purchase, for those who've had experience with same, which of these manufacturers would you consider the best: Ed Brown, Les Baer or Wilson?

I've got no first hand experience with any of them, but I've been a long time member on 1911 forums, and Wilson seems to consistently be on the top of that group as far as customer service goes. That doesn't mean the other two are bad, just that Wilson has a very good reputation.

No experience with Brown. Sent a Baer back for refinishing (my fault, my dime); lots of additional charges, like $45 for test-firing.

Had to return a Wilson SpecOps for feeding issues, they really did go above and beyond to get it right; even offered a handful of spare mags for my trouble. I refused the mags so they comped a front sight upgrade I had ordered. Also sent some slides for refinishing and was happy with the work and the turn around time.

I think, with any of the three, and with CS in general; your outcome largely depends on how YOU present yourself and your issues.

No bad choices here

Each of the makers you reference produce excellent pistols. I have owned multiple models from each maker.

My experience has been that the most trouble free pistols were made by Ed Brown. The best service received was from Wilson. The Les Baer pistols proved to be the most accurate.

My personal opinion about purchasing any new 1911 model from one of these makers is that I would do so based solely on price as the quality of all of their guns is outstanding.
