Anyone have a link to a page that gives manufacture dates for M1917?
Also a link to a page to help determine if the gun is original and what the proof marks on the gun are would be apreciated.

The serial # is 608xxx so if you somebody could provide the manufacture date that could take care of the first part. Thanks.

define "original"

do you mean comprised of all parts from one maker?
all USGI parts?

anyway, a rifle with a 608XXX number was made in 1918.

heres where you will find the makers markings

I can't imagine a copy-non original 1917 Enfield. They were only made 1917-1918 so I never researched date of manufacture much. But if you look at left side of the receiver you should see the classic"flaming bomb" U.S. military mark, which I believe would count as a proof mark.

Added Info. if the CMP chart is correct, your rifle was made in Jun 1918

check your parts for factory stampings as outlined here

the majority of M1917's were rearsenaled. when the rifle was stripped down, parts got all thrown in together then mixed and matched back to other rifles. many rifles would get thier barrels replaced.

a 5 groove barrel with a left hand twist is original, a 4 groove with a right hand twist is a High Standards replacement barrel, and a 2 groove with a right hand twist is a Johnson Automatics replacement barrel.

that said, ALL ORIGINAL 1917s are some what of a rare bird
