I just traded my Romanian Draco AK pistol for an Egyptian Maadi AK. I think it is an early pre-ban Steyr import. ARM model. Has threaded muzzle and bayonet lug. Quality seems very good. Looks to of been fired very little. Pristine bore. Just fired 20 rounds without a hitch, hit what I was aiming at and no trigger slap. Sights are straight. numbers match. Serial number lower than 000500.

I don't know much about the Egyptian AKs, most of what I have read has been good though.

Did I do pretty good in the trade? Any interesting info on them?

I'd say you done real good. Although the Draco pistols are in short supply right now, I suspect you'd have plenty of chances to replace it down the line should you miss it.

Yeah, the Draco was lots of fun but not very practical. I wanted to do an SBR build with it but decided not to deal with the hassle. It was a very fine example but the practicality just wasn't there.

From what I read about the Maadi it is one of the best built, and after shooting mine it has found a permanent home. Only issue with mine was someone put a coat of spray paint on it and put it on way too thick. Mine didn't have a threaded barrel but was an easy fix, bayonet lug had been removed. Between the Draco and Maadi I think you did great.

The Maadi's a quality rifle but have you seen what Dracos are selling for now:eek:

I paid $320 for my Draco when they first came out but they've been going for $800-1100 online lately. I would have put it up on gunbroker and then bought the Maadi but if you're happy with the deal-----it was a good deal.

I paid $319 for my Draco a few years ago. The wholesale price for them now isn't much more than that... IF you can find one, like you said. There might be a shipment of them next week and the shops wont be able to give them away. Two gun shops here didn't want it. I say its their loss!

Ah the good old days where a rifle could be imported without being neutered. Wish we could go back to that. Then we could get the Saiga's that are illegal to import to the US that the rest of the world enjoys.

Yeah, Its pretty gratifying to look at a rifle and know that every bit of it is original parts, exactly how it was meant to be.

Its accuracy has surprised me, fist sized groups at close to a hundred yards shooting off hand with open sights, using Wolf ammo.

I had a lot of offers for WASRs and SARs, I'm glad this little gem came along.

Are you gonna put up a video of it soon? I would like to see it.

You're telling me that those experts in the comment sections of Youtube are wrong?

Im gonna be odd man out. I dont think it was a good trade. In fact I feel sorry for you. So I will offer my Draco in a trade so you can be even again. ;)

Here's my Maadi after some modifications. I've never had a problem with it. Mine was imported during the AWB through Century Arms. The sight is ever-so-slightly canted, but it's never caused me to miss. I tried to sell it about 6 years ago because I just wasn't shooting it, but I'm glad I couldn't find a buyer and made it a little more "combat ready."

Well, the fore end is easier to hold onto, but it's not sticky at all :).

Jeff, if you're up for paying DOUBLE what it's worth then we'll talk, otherwise I think I'll hold on to it :)

so what is the going price for Maadi's these days? I have a couple of them.....one with pistol grip style and one with a thumbhole stock....

Is there anything in particular you all want to see? Its rainy today but I can try to get a few decent indoor photos if you like.

Here are a couple outdoor shots I got today in between the rain. I think I'm in love. All of the rivet heads are perfectly round. I swapped out the original "chocolate brown" grip for a bakelite one. I like the color and texture of them more. I plan on keeping the original as I hear that they can demand a premium.

Looks like a good ol' classic commie Ak to me!
