I acquired a Steyr imported Egyptian Maadi AK through a trade. I came out way ahead, the other guy didn't know what he had, and neither did I until I got home and did some research. These are a rare pre-ban AK. Only 2000 were imported. This one is all original with matching numbers. They are selling on Gunbroker right now for 2-3,000 bucks! :what:

Anyway, I would be happy with any standard AK. So my thoughts are to sell this one, buy a regular AK to replace it, and spend the profit to fund other things (truck rebuild) right now.

Would that be a foolish thing to do? Should I hang on to it? I know it will continue to increase in value, but it would be nice to have the extra funds right now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sell it now.. You cant predict if next week they will be illegal due to some crazy presidential BS or if they will drop in price significantly .. But the economy is at a ok point on the gun market right now and people are buying so you might as well get a lower priced ak varient fix your truck and buy a pallet of ammo to burn thru.

I'd hang onto it for a year. The AK supply was only recently affected by import issues, so I'd anticipate values to continue to increase. Also, prices often go up approaching elections, especially if they are close or it looks like anti-gun candidates are likely to win. If Hillary Clinton wins, I'd bet the price will increase dramatically in a very short period of time.

I'd slap on every accessory Tapco makes for it, have bubba weld on some tacticool muzzle break and bump fire it until the handguards catch on fire!

Back before the fall of the evil Impire I thought those were possibly the nicest AK short of the East German MPiK and some Soviet builds. A bud bought one early on when it was that or a not very AK looking Finn from Valmet. We shot green case Czech steel in it as that was what was available.

They were no where near as cheap as they would be in a few years and sure got attention on any range.

If you are not a collector but more interested in shooting I would say sell it now and buy a cheaper gun, some ammo and those truck repairs.

Strike while the iron is hot, dude. Tomorrow there may not even be a forge!

This gun isn't going to be impacted very much by politics since it falls into the desirable collectable AK category, but it isn't going to appreciate very fast either.

The value depends upon condition and upon what is with it. Shot and scuffed up a little drives the value down to around $1,000-$1,200 range depending upon where you live. New in box with box and papers and the sling and "Egypt" marked mag is where those high dollars are found.

Post a pic of the rifle and everything it came with and folks would have a better idea of what you have to provide advice.

Pics work?

I don't have any accessories, just the rifle. It's complete and in good condition. Im really leaning towards a local shop consigning it on gunbroker for me.

The last one i had I sold during the ban for $1200. You might get $2k for one now. Not as nicely finished as my Hungarian Krasnar but it was much better than any Romanian. They werent top notch quality but they were OK. If it were me I'd sell it for whatever I could get for it. Theres a few states that "pre ban" matters as thats all the buyers there can legally have and you might get a good premium for it.

I'd sell it. The higher end AK's don't seem as susceptible to climbing prices, so the price will probably not increase much in the near future. The lower and middle range rifles seem to be the ones that creep up higher and sometimes stay there. I'd sell the Maadi to someone who will appreciate it, buy one you can shoot the pee out of without guilt, and get the truck fixed.

I think I would take it out to the range a few times just to see what it will do. If it doesn't wow you like you thought it would maybe then consider selling it, getting a new less expensive AK, and still have some money leftover for the truck repairs.

I think selling it was the wise thing to do. Tending to be a bit on the pragmatic side, I personally would much rather have a nice Arsenal or a quality kit build from the likes of Atlantic Arms (such as the Polish kit build I just bought) for under $1,000 and spend the $2000 on magazines and ammunition.

I'm not much for having an expensive firearm unless it's gorgeous. That doesn't really apply to the AK, IMO.

Now buy a Polish AK from Atlantic Arms and pocket the remaining $2000.

I love mine. Congratulations on your sale!

Thats pretty good for one of those. Beauty in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

What did John Madden say?:

Don't worry about the mule going blind, just load the wagon.

Sell it now.

Sounds like you definitely did alright with your Gunbroker sale! I have been looking at picking up another AK and those Polish versions they have at Atlantic Arms have certainly piqued my interest as well.
