Say, what ever happened to the NRA thing they were going to open on Times Square? Kind of lucky they didn't or they'd be getting blamed for this to.

Eight People Shot at Arcade in New York's Times Square

Sunday, March 09, 2003

NEW YORK — Eight people were shot and two were stabbed early Sunday when a brawl erupted inside a nightclub above a Times Square arcade, police said. Two others were trampled as people rushed to get out.

A man who was shot in the chest and a woman shot in the stomach appeared to be the most seriously injured. Both were in critical condition Sunday, said police Sgt. Dennis Ferber.

Police said they were searching for two suspects and talking to three people arrested on weapons charges at a nearby subway station shortly after the fight.

The department cracked down on gang violence in the area last year because of brawls, but police officials said that Sunday's fight apparently was not gang-related.

The Broadway City Arcade and club shares a block on West 42nd Street with the theaters that stage the musicals The Lion King and 42nd Street and with Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

Club security guard Omar Leger said he was in a bathroom when he heard gunshots about 2:40 a.m., and emerged to see people running toward the exits. He said clubgoers were falling and tripping over each other as they scrambled to get out.

"People were getting trampled," said Leger, who estimated that as many as 350 people were in the club.

Another security guard, Juan Jose De la Cruz, said the club's policy is to pat patrons down as they enter to check for weapons.

The brawl followed a month in which a nightclub stampede in Chicago killed 21 people and the club fire in West Warwick, R.I., killed 99.

A man who answered the phone at the arcade early Sunday declined to comment.

All 10 shooting and stabbing victims were ages 17 to 25.

The conditions of the other patrons injured in the melee were not immediately known, but police said their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

I love how in the title, it stated that "8 people were shot" but they wait until the body of the article to state that only were stabbed.

A proper title would be that 10 people were injured in an attack. The tools used are just details in the crime.

Looks like another liberal attempt to villify the tool and not the action of the person, subtle as it might be.

This can't be. We all know that unless you are a celebrity in NYC it is iligal to carry a gun. Since no one was carrying a gun there must be a mistake, unless Steven Tyler or Howard Stern was their.

It happens and it is never a good thing....let me say though that Times Square is much, much safer now than 10 or 20 years ago.

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that laws only work on law-abiding people? I mean really man, this is absurd. The guys who shot those kids in the club will probably get away and there are 4 (i think its 4 currrently) men in New York either on trial or awaiting trial for defending their homes with unregistered handguns. :banghead:

I was in a club in Times Square about a month ago when I was in the city for a wedding. Not the same club, but there are tons of them in Times Square, one on top of the other, and all very crowded. I couldn't help but think that if there was a fire, there'd be absolutely no way to get out unless you were right by the door. But gunshots? I think I would rather just duck and take my chances with stray bullets than be part of a stampede.

Ah, the conservative left. Using stories like this to strengthen misinformed opinions is rather cold, don't you think? I mean seriously, do any of those leftists care if 8 gang members from Manhattan get shot? No. But they pretend to care because it allows them to villify the tool, just like you said, gryphon. Their hearts are not bleeding. They don't care any more about those stupid gang bangers than I do, and that ain't much. At least I admit my apathy instead of feigning sympathy to further some extremist political view. Posers. :neener:
