El Chapo Had A Fast and Furious Barrett .50 Cal

Oh, gawd.

Operation Wide Receiver was shut down under the Bush Administration by ATF honcho William Hoover at ATF HQ because it was a failed program.

Then under the Obama Administration Operation Fast and Furious was started up, same failed policy, why? Why?

Am I supposed to believe that was George Bush's fault? Or, was that tied into Mexican President Felipe Calderon's Rose Garden media op appearances and address to the US Congress calling for re-instatement of the 1994-2004 US Federal Assault Weapons Ban?

Funny thing is, Calderon militarized the Mexican Drug War in 2006, called in the Army, and the Claderon and Bush Administrations considered the escalating body count a good thing since the vast majority of deaths were drug cartel members. Then with Obama in office, the Mexican Drug War deaths became a bad thing and all the fault of American gun rights. Ban guns and the Mexican drug war would go away. Yeah. Sure. I think it was Calderon agreeing with whatever got most goodies from whatever US administration.

There's been a new president in Mexico since 2012 (they have a six year one-chance term). Felipe Calderon Succeeded by Enrique Peña Nieto. What have we heard about the Mexican Drug War and US guns since 2012? Geez.

Considering the level of corruption in the Mexican police department and the way they intertwine with cartels that was likely a very good idea.
On that basis the Justice Department and the White House itself should have been "cut out".

But of course that's NOT why the Mexicans were cut out. They were cut out because they had no role to play in the operation. The intent was for thousands of guns to fall into the hands of criminals in Mexico then be "found" by the Mexicans at crime scenes. There was no necessity for prior knowledge on the part of the Mexicans to accomplish that objective.

.50 cal Barrett can be used to destroy materiel on the ground (parked helicopters, moving trucks, if you know where to hit vital components).

But suggest to military personnel that it can be used to shoot helicopters or airliners in flight moving in three dimensions, to be used as an anti-aircraft defense or for offense against flying aircraft, prepare to be laughed at. Stinger missile may be an AA weapon, but not a .50 Barrett rifle.

And we do have a few civilian users at the local club, on the upper, 300-yard range, as a long range target rifle.

Theoretically. In the real world, the US ATF Mexico City Office was dismayed and their Mexican LE counterparts upset that that ATF's MCO and Mexican LE were NOT given a heads up on Operation Fast and Furious.

There is a serious problem in Mexico: the cartels can extort or bribe Mexican LEOs. However, the cartels are not always successful: their tactics breed resentment in honest Mexican LE. And OFF soured relations between US and Mexican LE when cooperation was needed most.

Fox not only continues to perpetrate this lie, but doubles down by embellishing the lie. Thanks for joining with MSNBC as an enemy of the rights of the people in this country.

Sensationalism at its best.. They are all the same.
Considering nether Barret had an optic it would be rather interesting to see em take down anything past 10yrds.. :)

It comes down to this final question. It was one or the other. Even the defenders (I'm still amazed there are some) of that debacle have offered no alternative conclusions.

And that to me is like a steaming gun.

Basically what this has come down to is Obama and Holder saying, by Executive Privilege,...
"Even though Holder was caught lying, uncooperative, and held in contempt (to mention a few)....Trust just the 2 of us with no checks and balances. No one else in Govt is trustworthy enough to show the docs to."

:scrutiny:

"massive rifle that can stop a car or, as it was intended, take down a helicopter"

From someone who (in general) likes and watches Fox News:

A report aired the afternoon/evening of Jan. 20th reported on this; the audio talked about a Barrett .50 caliber ---- BUT the video showed a mounted, belt-fed machinegun being fired.:banghead:

"Perpetrate ....embellish the lie." ??
In this case YES.

So... AG Loretta Lynch has now said she hasn't determined if she will turn over the docs.

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/lynch-may-fight-fast-and-furious-papers/article/2581050

"We are still reviewing that ruling," Attorney General Loretta Lynch told senators Wednesday when asked if the government could comply with the court decision. She told Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., that the government might pursue "additional legal action"

I wasnt aware of this.....

Holders wife chartered an all African American Sorority at Harvard back in 1980.

Interestingly, she chartered the Sorority with none other than Holders replacement, Loretta Lynch

We have a new AG that stressed that she would work to repair relationships in Congress and a President that stressed transparency..... and look where we are now.

:barf:

Someone should explain that to Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi.
He was unlucky. However to a cartel mules are expendable. If they get caught you get another. The keep their mouths shut because if the don't they end up dead.

I've crossed the border dozens of times and have been stopped once. In that stop we got out of the car and the driver popped the trunk. The soldier looked in, didn't move a thing, and sent us on our way.

I vote for incompetence

Holder and Obama feel the same way about Border Patrol agents.

Otherwise they wouldn't have sent thousands of guns to hyper-violent drug gangs in Mexico without the SLIGHTEST effort to track them, all in an effort to create political pressure for a new "assault weapons" ban.

The same could be said for Operation Wide Receiver. Some in the gun community see one operation as a very poorly thought out sting by the ATF and the other as a conspiracy.
What does it matter what you CALL it? Fast and Furious delivered literally thousands of guns to Mexican drug lords, and these guns were used to kill civilians and law enforcement officers, including a US Border Patrol Agent.

The ATF operatives who provided those guns have innocent blood on their hands, and should be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law.

But that's not the "Chicago way", wherein the people exist solely as prey for the "public servants".

Look at the UTTER lack of punishment by this junta for government employees engaged in the most egregious behavior, from Lois Lerner to VA employees allowing vets to die while raking in thousands in bonuses, to thugs in the BATFE sending thousands of guns to the Mexican cartels.

If you're not on the government dole, you AND YOUR LIFE are worthless.

And that is exactly why everyone involved in this mess should be prosecuted to the fullest.

Which proves once again how corrupt our system of justice is. It won't change until we demand that it change, and start throwing criminals like these in prison for a long time.

The ATF didn't provide any guns. Out of the thousands of guns involved the ATF was involved in the buying or selling of 6.

They monitored a smuggling network they didn't create it.

ATF put the FFL dealers up to providing the guns -- they deliberately allowed those guns to walk across the border. And innocent people died as a result.
The ATF allowed the sales to happen. They didn't tell dealers to go find some gun traffickers to sell to. The smuggling network was well established before F&F started.

Youre right. They didn't create it.

The only fostered it and helped it grow more dangerous by allowing the sale and not having a way to track them whether they wanted to or not.
