Folks, depending on who wins the election, we may be in for a test from al Qaeda shortly after Inauguration Day. So now might be a good time for us to assume Condition Orange.

Check your emergency supplies and plans. See ready.gov for some suggestions.

Your best preparedness strategy is not to hole up solo, but to get hooked in tight with some friends and neighbors who have a good head on their shoulders. Stay loose, but stay alert.

Glenn Beck was saying he's heard some viable rumblings of an October Surprise for prior to the election, in an attempt to affect it, much as it did in Madrid and the Spanish elections a few years back.

Just my opinion of course, but if those losers were capable of doing anything they would have by now

Wow! I thought I was the only one that figured this out!

Will there ever be another act of terrorism on US soil? Sure, why not. "Ever" is a long long time.

Do we really need to do much of -anything- about something that -might- happen once a decade, and we can't really prevent no matter what we do?

Ummm, no.

If Osamma and the rest of his towel headed "no BBQ for me please" buddies were really 40 feet tall (as those who's positions of power and budgets would have you believe), there are LOTS and LOTS of very simple thing they could have done here in the last 7 years.

Remember, they (terrorists) don't want to "get away with it" (which, unfortunately, is the focus of much of our "security", making sure they don't get away with it), they -want- to die. All they have to do is walk up to a school yard in the middle of East Podunk and open up with AK's. Simple, little to no planning, pretty much impossible to prevent, would get them headlines across the world for at least a week and -really- spread panic.

Or better yet, same plan, only in the "Mall of America" any weekend. Or an airport, the powers that be want us all to believe that terrorists are obsessed with airplanes. What about the lines waiting to go through security? What a wonderful collection of victims, all in one place, and in a nice neat line ... even better if you have them bottled up in those cattle chutes they herd the sheeple through.

Its all a farce people, foisted on you by folks that want your tax dollars and control of your lives. You have a MUCH better chance of being killed by lightning than by a terrorist. Donkeys kill more people every year than terrorists. Federal air marshal program has existed since the mid 70's. There are now people retiring from government service that have spend their entire career flying from place to place in first class ... for a living.

The government, in the odd way it keeps score, will proudly tell you "no plane with a sky marshal on board has ever been hijacked."

And that is true.

What they fail to tell you that since the inception of the Sky Marshals, over 200 US carrier aircraft =have= been hijacked (the FAA's own numbers, I looked it up), and that no hijacking has ever been "foiled" by a sky marshal.

My bet is that they've "done something" dozens of times and gotten stopped every time.

That would be a stupid strategy on their part. It'd likely backfire. (Not that everyone in al Qaeda is a genius; the nature of the organization demands otherwise.)

Nonetheless, I'll stand by my main point: it never hurts to be prepared.

There are few things working against this often raised theory

1. If killing Americans is the goal, they've got all they need overseas

2. They absolutely underestimated the response to 9/11. They expected a criminal investigation, just as happened in the embassy bombings and the 1993 attack. They didn't expect to end up fighting to retake their base of operations, nor their people being eliminated around the globe.

3. Because of 2, their backers (the Saudis, etc) don't want any further attacks on the American homeland. Kill Americans overseas (see 1), fine. Kill Americans at home, and the next country lost might be their own. If Saudi Arabia weren't critical to our economy, you'd see troops in areas other than Baghdad.

4. AQ goes for major, flashy operations with high casualty counts. They can easily pull one off here but it has to be worth ticking off not just the US, but also AQ's own allies.

We discuss REALITY here. Posts that the sky is falling and we all need to stack magazines and straighten the pins on our grenades are not on topic here or anywhere else on THR.
