Emergency Savage 99 Help

Seeing how much I love to clean guns, all my family members decided to bring me their guns to clean. Everything was going fine untill my grandfather brought me a Savage 99 (don't know the specific model) in .308 Winchester. I took out one screw (labeled part #9 and #32 here: http://stevespages.com/ipb-savage-99.html). Then I heard a spring move. Now, a part has moved to block the hole the screw was in and the action won't cycle. I have no idea what's going on here. I researched it a little afterwards and boy did I bite off more than I could chew.

But regardless, I need to get this rifle working again ASAP or I'll be stuck paying for a gunsmith (which I should have done in the first place). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try taking the lever out of it to free up the bolt. Remove item #23 and #41, get yourself a digital camera and take pix. along the way, or draw the guts as assembled...a schematic is good, as long as it shows the assembly sub drawings.

I think once you have everything else disassembled, you should be able to reach in and re-align the carrier spindle support and sear as you re-assemble it.

Never start unscrewing bolts on a firearm randomly. I learned this the hard way when I tried to take apart a Winchester 94 by randomly pulling out screws LOL

I would suggest following these guidelines until you reach the sear screw, then reversing the order and it should be fine.

i always try to find a video on you tube or something on the net before i start disassemble, it helps ALOT, just last week my boss got me to clean his kel tec .380, i found a video on you tube that made it alot easier....
