Got out to the range today with my EMF Great Western II 45 Colt, with an Old Model black powder frame.

Was shooting at 15 yards free hand with no rest, using Mag-Tech 250gr. LFP "Cowboy Action" loads.

First attempt at a shooting video, so not exactly Spielberg production! :)

Afterwards with the card from the video.

I found out after buying it, it's kind of a rarity with the OM frame. The dealer I bought it from had 2 with consecutive 3 digit serial numbers, and said he had just bought them the week before directly from EMF. According to EMF, Pietta sent them a few guns made up on these frames which EMF doesn't normally sell. Pietta does make 1873 replicas for Marstar in Canada on the OM frame, so I wonder if these weren't leftover frames from a run for Marstar that Pietta did a build out on?

Probably no way to know for sure, but either way, great gun!

Nice video gilgsn, I see it's "part 1", let me know if you put up more.

Is your gun just labeled "Pietta" or was it imported under another name?

Hi BCLL,

I will make another one.. Also plan on testing the 45-270-SAA bullet with Unique, and a couple loads with 2400. The gun is marked "Pietta." Very nice revolver! I was surprised by the quality, given the price. Replacing the main spring with a Wolf reduced power spring and wire bolt spring did make the trigger lighter, but produced misfires with CCI primers. A Belt mountain .2495 base pin fits tighter and doesn't move as much, a must! (the Pietta base pin is .2490). It shoots left 5'' at 25yrds.. Turning the barrel might be the solution, or filing the right side of the front sight, not sure which would be best..
Congratulations o your purchase! Let me know how if you notice anything after a few hundred rounds. I think it is nicely made and will hold up fine. I load a 255gr bullet at 875fps; the 280gr SAA probably comes out at 825 or so; no cowboy loads for me ;-)

SO far this ones been pretty good. Hits about 1" to the right with Winchester and Ultramax 250gr. loads, but was dead on with the Mag-Tech stuff.

Zero movement on the cylinder on mine, locks up like a bank vault. I took the grip frame off a few days ago and that's when I saw mine has the coil hand spring like a Ruger. Was a good surprise!

Seriously considering some Bar-S "Tru-Ivory" grips for this one.

Well, the RCBS 45-270-SAA bulet (280gr) comes out at 840fps, with 8gr of Unique. You're lucky to have the windage just right! I'm still 5" left at 25yrds. That means moving the front sight 0.03" to the left.. Darn..
Other than that, such a great gun!
