EMF Great Western II vs. Cimarron Frontier - Differences?

Thanks for the reply.

I just happened to remember this thread and went back to see if there was any update.

It was unfortunate that you had to send it back the 1st time and a little ridiculous that it had to go back a 2nd.

The fact they've had it 6 weeks without as much as an update certainly is disappointing.

Hope it gets resolved quickly and satisfactorily!

And I was considering buying a Pietta...now, not so much. They do look nice, and I've done some deburring/stoning to Rugers so I'm not afraid to open a S/A up...but then again, a used Colt/S&W double/single action speaks to me as well.

I really need another 6" barrel revolver...it's almost Christmas.

I've sent several emails to Bobby at customer service since 12/2. He's been responsive, but it doesn't really seem that he can do much besides just email the gunsmith and wait for a reply.

I'm trying to be patient and withhold judgment until we reach the end of this ordeal, but I really don't think I can recommend Cimarron at this point.

Timeline so far:

22.08.30 - Called Cimarron to open RMA. Was told to expect email soon.
22.09.01 - Received email with RMA and tracking label info.
22.09.03 - Gun shipped to warranty gunsmith from my FFL.
22.09.06 - Gun received by warranty gunsmith.
22.10.10 - Gun received back from gunsmith -- still with issues. Emailed customer service again explaining issues, included photos.
22.10.13 - Received email back with second RMA approval and tracking label.
22.10.19 - Gun shipped back to warranty gunsmith from my FFL.
22.10.21 - Gun received by warranty gunsmith.
22.12.02 - Had not heard anything, so emailed customer service inquiring about status (Friday evening).
22.12.05 - Received reply from Bobby (Monday morning) apologizing, and advising he sent email to gunsmith asking for status.
22.12.11 - Had not yet received update. Emailed Bobby again, asking for update and escalation.
22.12.12 - Received reply from Bobby advising he sent the gunsmith another email and asked if gun can be moved up the line. Evidently still no reply from the gunsmith to Bobby.

Will update ya'll on the final resolution, hopefully soon...

Well, after 5 months and four more emails and a few phone calls, I think we finally achieved resolution. Received the gun back on 1/27/23 with a new cylinder. Lock up feels nice and tight on all chambers.

Was this a good customer service experience or a poor one? You be the judge. Everyone I spoke with at Cimarron seemed polite enough and were fairly responsive, but there was clearly no sense of urgency about anything. The whole process (paperwork requirements, shipping practices, etc.) seemed very archaic. Cimarron seems to operate at the tempo of an old mom and pop shop. That's not necessarily an indictment, it's just my observation.

I don't think I'll plan to keep this gun, and I doubt I'll buy from Cimarron in the future. YMMV. In any event, I'm happy to have this behind me.

Here's a few pictures of the gun as returned. Pardon the oil smears and fuzz.

Glad you got a satisfactory resolution. Even if it took a while.
That's the problem with dealing with an importer rather than the manufacturer.
If they are outsourcing repairs, they are at the mercy of that 3rd party. So no matter how good the CS at Cimarron was, it only takes a slow or sloppy 3rd party gunsmith to leave you with a bad experience overall.
Just curious though, why don't you think you will keep it now that it's fixed?

Was thinking about this again a day or two ago and thought about inquiring again but figured you'd update when you could.

Shame you're not planning on keeping it but I guess after going through all that I understand.

The cylinder and timing issue seem to be fixed, but the action is still pretty gritty. Overall, I'm just not pleased with the quality or this experience and don't have confidence in the warranty process if I run into any further issues as I start using it again.

I got a Cimmaron Pistolero (PPP45) last month as my first foray into SAA/Clones.
For $432 shipped I am tickled.
I did tear it down and stoned all edges/burrs, bought a reduced mainspring from EMF, and a Uberti cylinder pin from VTI (with the rounded “safety” grooves all the way around the pin-I didn’t like at all the small notches Pietta uses).
Only “issue” I’ve fixed was the cylinder pin release button left a corner still in the way of pin when fully depressed and easily taken care of.
The cylinders are all .452/.453 (don’t have pin gauges) but more consistent than any Ruger I’ve had. I haven’t slugged bore yet or done load development on paper but it seems more accurate than I am (I’m not well versed in revos-hence the purchase).
I did some fitting of wood to frame/trigger guard on grips but it was by no means bad as receiver.
Solid 4-click true love for the money as far as I’m concerned.

+ 1. I concur with your happiness towards yours in your opening sentence as well as your last sentence. I enjoy shooting mine one handed with my 250 gr. hand loads and with this barrel length I estimate them to run about 775 FPS.
