Great series. I will be following in. She really is doing what she needs to do. If you move from a place where you feel the government is infringing your rights, you are abdicating your responsibility to do something about that infringement. Emily is doing exactly what she needs to do. Kudos.

here's my favorite line so far, speaking of the 17 steps...

"If I pass all these tests, then I get the gun, but have to go straight home since it's illegal to carry in the city"

Supposed Mr. Heller, Mrs. Parker and Mr. McDonald had simply moved?

I think a mass exodus along with the tax dollars it would take with it would speak more loudly to DC politicians than Supreme Court rulings. Too bad that won't happen.

i have enjoyed her response to the city & her resolve to see this through. even though she has all these hoops to go through, she seems to have a very positive attitude & a fun but fiesty spirt about her. i am really enjoying this series & thanks for posting it.

My mom was a feisty 5'2". God help you if you told her something could not be done... I get the feeling our Miss Emily is like mom was. You aren't going to stop her with a few obsticles...And her writeups are good for everyone.

Good For Her!!! Go girl!

I live 2 hours north of DC in Delaware. A couple months back I bought multiple guns at the same time. The NCIS check and paper work took a half hour, tops. Paid and left with my purchases. Have a nice day. Somehow, despite the absence of "reasonable gun control" the streets of Delaware are not rivers of blood.

One FFL, open 4 hours a day, by appointment, when normal folk are at work. Yeah, they've really opened the floodgates.

If you've ever been to DC, you'd realize that the local politics are, um, well, they are very representative of the population at-large. It probably will take Congress stepping in to change things. Unfortunately, decent people like the author of this article are a very, very, VERY small minority of people who actually live in DC. Most of the decent people who work in DC, don't live there. They commute.

Kudos to Ms. Miller, she is doing an excellent job of bringing this to public view.

I understand that she's doing this for a story ( blog ). I wonder how many actual hours this is going to take her. I can't imagine trying to get all the 17 steps done during the day and having a full time job. I'm sure the DC politicos did that on purpose to dissuade a person to own a firearm. Thank goodness I live in a free state. Keep it up Emily!!! We're all watching!!!

Take the gun to the police department for ballistics testing?

Amazing.

The amazing part is it is illegal to transport your gun to or from the police department in order to have the ballistics testing done.

So by default, you must break the law in order to follow the letter of the law.

There have been two new posts to the blog since the last time I updated the OP, so in order to bump the thread for those who were following it, I'll add links to subsequent new posts to the body of the thread. Or anyone who finds them before I do can add them...

In the original post you have the dates listed as "11/15" etc. That would be November. They should be "10/15" etc.

Btw, thanks for the bump and the update.

As you said.......it won't happen.

One of the reasons is the majority of DC residents support the anti-gun laws. Most of those people will tell you that the anti-gun laws are one of the reasons they live there and had moved there from other more gun friendly locations.

Another apparently less obvious reason is that, just like anywhere else in the country, if you own a house in DC and you decide to move out, you have to sell that house to someone else. Now, if you're independently wealthy and can afford to just forgo $300K to $1.5M in property, you can choose to simply depart and leave the house/property to the DC Government. They will then turn it over and sell it to a contractor who will then sell it to a new resident anyway.

There were 5 shootings in DC on Halloween night. At least that's what the news said. Of course we all know that's impossible because you can't carry outside your house in DC. :scrutiny:

I cant find it now but I swear there was a pic of her posing, dual wielding with fingers in the trigger guard.
