I took my Encore to the range over the weekend and it won't fire. It's light-striking the primer. It leaves a dimple in the primer, but no ignition.

The firing pin looks 'healthy' and extends fully when I press it from the hammer side.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I just moved to NE Louisiana and don't know who to trust when it comes to smiths. I'm also pretty handy with firearm internals and may have a look myself.

Any feedback or cautionary tales would be greatly appreciated.

Have you ever dry fired it?? This is a definite no no with Encores.

This sometimes messes up the firing pin return spring resulting in light strikes.

You can take the pin out very easily and see what the spring looks like.

280 Rem factory ammo in a 280 Rem AI barrel.

I'm shooting the same ammo that the original owner shot. I've ordered a heavier hammer spring from Bellm. Several have responded on other boards that adding a hammer extension to the Encore can cause this.

I need to get to the range and try shooting without the hammer extender, which I WILL NOT hunt without. The clearance between my scope and hammer will not allow a safe hammer lower, should I need to back down.

Thanks for your interest in my problem.
