I've been looking at the Ishapore .308 2A Enfields for quite some time now. I think they would make a great addition to my collection, but i wont buy one unless im sure that i can get an aftermarket peep sight that will work with it. I recently handled one at a gun-show and i liked every bit of the rifle except for one thing, the sights. i see a lot of things wrong with them. the sight radius could be WAY better,(like on the no.4) they are calibrated for .303 when it is a 7.62NATO rifle and for some odd reason i just don't like em. so... i would like to see what you guys thought about putting an aftermarket peep sight or scope mount on one. and, what would it take if i were going to? it seems to me like the existing sight's would have to be removed in order for a new, reciever mounted peep sight to work, but I don't know what it would take to remove them. any advise is greatly appreciated.

this sight looks like it would work but i dont know if i could install it.

Most of the 2a's I've seen were calibrated for 7.62x51. Some have the older rear leafs of course, but most I have seen have the graduations. As to your sight, my dad installed one on his Golden State Arms carbine years back and was very satisfied. The 2a receiver is slightly different, of course, but it may not be an issue with installing a sight. Since you plan on permanently altering your rifle, then some judicious grinding may not be a problem for you.

There was somebody on Fleabay selling a peep which just replaced the notch, unscrewing the cap from the leaf. Still too far from the eye for optical correctness, of course.
There are also match sights like the PH5A which will fit the 2A as well

and there was the PH16F, similar to the Williams 5D but made for the SMLE receiver contours

i believe u can get mojo sights for them

i hate my enfield sights

i was told that the 2a is calibrated for the .303 and the 2a1 for the x51 round

i never tough my sights i have them as far down as i can for 50 yards and that seams fine

i think you all completely missed the point:eek: i really just wanted o know what i would have to do to install the williams peep sight. like, would i have to remove the existing sights? and if i did, how?

sorry for not being clear. ill try to improove my writing skills.:neener:

PH=Parker Hale?

Interesting. Where can either of these be found?

You probably wouldn't want the original sight sticking up in your field of view. Some leaves are attached with a pin, washer and crosspin and are fairly easy to remove, although the spring in the base makes it difficult to install them again. Later ones are permanently riveted into the base.
I have sold the Parker-Hale sights on Fleabay and the CSP WTS pages in the past, though I don't have either of these models at the present.
