I've had an Ishapore / Enfield 2A in 7.62 for for at least 15 years. It is a Gibbs Rifle Company "fake" #5 Jungle Carbine. I ordered it "new" in the box sometime in the mid 1990s from Bob Farnsworth in Vonore. Seems like it was about $125. It it probably the ugliest firearm I have ever owned (if you don't count Glocks). It is also heavy, as it is encumbered with at least 4 pounds of wood stock. Almost a year ago I had an order in to Cheaper than Dirt ( I sometimes call "Expensive as Crap") and I added an ATI polymer sporter stock. I got bored today and finally installed the stock.

I really like the change in looks. Now if I can figure out how to add a forward mount-long eye relief scope I will have myself a very low buck "Scout Rifle". Any suggestions?

My suggestion is sell it to me I like that rifle. I didn't know they made Ishapore's in 7.62 nato in the Jungle Carbine No.5 configuration. Nice rifle Bet its pretty loud though.

I really like it. I bet it's fun to shoot, and reliable/accurate enough to take game with.
Enjoy it. If you decide to sell, PM me.

Can anyone recommend a muzzle brake and mounting method that would look a little better than the "Carnival Snow Cone" flash hider that is on there now?

Vortex brake is nice. (Really a flash hider, but looks nice, and really works.)
1/2x28 thread. Any machine shop can do that.

I've had one for around 15 years now, gave 100 bucks for it. It has served me well as my beater truck gun. I'm a central Texas rancher that is totally overrun with feral hogs. To date I've killed over a hundred hogs with it, easily. It's not heavy IMO, actually balances quite well carrying in the brush. Not loud at all. The "painted" finish is quite durable. It wont win any matches, but shoots 'minute of hog' up to 200 yds. I haven't missed one yet. Not bad for such a short sight radius. One problem is lead tipped bullets get battered in the mag, so I now load hornady sst's 150 gr over 44 gr imr4064. It likes nosler bt's as well. I have nicer more accurate rifles, but they don't live in the ranch truck like this one does. Oh yeah, as with most military rifles the chamber is generous so I don't size my brass all the way. I've had brass last 9 loadings before discarding. A friend was so impressed that he gave $400 for one and never looked back. A great little rifle for what it is.

Nice job on the stock swap. Personally I would look for a parker hale PH-5 peep sight for your ishy rather than the scout scope.
