I know I've seen something floating around here (or countless other threads regarding the same issue). I have an EO 512 and will be mounting on flattop soon (Armalite upper/Bushy). My thoughts are to raise the EO to just above front post as I would prefer to get the reticle in plain view (and utilize the lower third for for irons). I also know there are a number of solutions available. Question: Will the ARMS #19 with QD do this or will it be too high. I'm considering the ARMS 40L for B/U. I've heard all the comments regarding focusing on the reticle vs. front post, but my prefernce may very well be a riser. With the QD ARMS this appears to be the way. The LaRue offers the same, but I'm sure the price may be stiff. I know Yankee has a riser, but it's not QD.
Thanks all. New to the site and looking for some chat and good hearted tomfoolery!!

Dazed and Confused

Welcome to THR!

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to move this post to the appropriate forum.

This section, "technical support", is for "Suggestions and Questions for the Staff" of the site.

B333,
My bad...but I figured someone would see that I was a fish out of water (and after several hours of grinding on threads on the cyber super highway I had to throw down somewhere). Thanks for the circle back.

Gundoggy,
Tha Larue mount is good stuff!. I have one with my 512 and really like it. It also has a picatinny area on the mount just behind the Eotech to add a magnifier using a Larue short mount. The way the mount is set up, you can have the Eotech, a magnifier and a B.U.I.S. all placed on the limited space on your flat top without needing a railed fore end.

Flip.

I have the ARMS 40L BUIS and the EOTECH co-witnessed on my AR.
Yankee Hill also makes a riser.
ANy mount that raises the EOtech
.275 to .300" should put the sights in the lower 1/3 of the window.

Thanks fellas

The laRue: I'm assuming the BUIS sets behind the whole enchilada (meaning on the flattop behind the small pic riser...yes?). The 512 is lower than other EO's a tad, so using the samll pic portion does the 512 housing come into view while looking through the 3x magnifier? According to EO, the 512 needs to be raised...the Larue does this but then also raises the magnifier (again). Seems like we keep rasing and raising and raising. I like the QD aspect of it...and the ability to get it all on there.

One more question: would the EO 3x fit on the stub in the back...a flip-to-side affair?

yes the Larue mount has a rail for the 3x to set on. If you raise the Eotech you must also raise the 3x

All this raising...
The 512 already sits too low (lower than other EO's) and thus the housing is in view in the 3x. The LaRue seems like a solution IF it can sit far enough forward to allow the 3x to rest on the flattop. In this case, the stub pic rail will go unused. More food for thought, anyway. My EO is of course not NV capatible and since they call for the mount to accommodate the PVS-14 or something I just wonder how you mount the EO 3x? The more I write the more it appears that I have a saddle looking for a horse to fit. In retrospect, had I known more, I would have plunked out a little more dough and gone with a different EO (perhaps). In any event, a good discussion from folks that know the market...thanks. I think as long as the ARMS 19 doesn't raise too high (which the EO rep said it wouldn't) that may be the route. I cannot find anywhere how high the 19 raises the optic. This all about getting comfy with the 3x and the 512 AND ALSO USING A BUIS TO GO IN THE LOWER 1/3. For Pete's sake, I live in Houston...there's got to be several places that carry both the 19 and the 40L so I can see it for myself. As I write this, I am recalling that I will be in Austin this Thursday...maybe I aggravte LaRue with my nonsense.

Thanks guys...as a first-time post, I already have gotten my money's worth. How much is THR charging other folks?

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the LaRue mount. Is it rock solid in every way.

Gundoggy,

The 3X doesn't have to rest on the flat top. That's what the small piece of picatinny rail on the back of the mount is for. This allows the Eotech sight, the Eotech magnifier, and the BUIS all to be mounted on the upper receiver without the need to move anything forward onto railed handguards.

I am sold...hopefully be in Austin this week...going to visit Leander!
Guys:
Again, thanks for the guidance. In speaking with a LaRue Rep last week, he was so adamant about the solution I thought I was being sold a bit. His conviction is a testament to their effort! Thanks again...once I can put everything on ($$$) I will report back to again give my .02.

One last question: accessory rail for handguard. I know there are many, but is there any magic? I've got a GG&G and thinking about the LaRue drop down...I'm actually trying to help finance the LaRue children's college fund!

LaRue mount here too though it sounds like you already decided.

I've had one for a couple of years now and it's been rock solid, like everything else they make.

I also have an ARMS 40 that I co-witness through my EOTech 512. I thought the front sight would be a problem when using the EOTech, but I got used to it the first time I shot it and have never given it a second thought, whether I'm using the 512 or the BUIS.

Lobot,
Good to know...before I plunk down more, I am going to see how my eyes see it.Also, thanks Sarge
