thanks jshirley and hso,

a while back i was thinking of an all-round knife for hunting and camping. i was thinking of a large k-bar type but then was told to get a smaller knife. i got two knives: the esee 4 and the cold steel recon scout (as my large knife). i love both but my review is on the esee 4 ( rc-4 knife ).

i was hunting in my canyon the other day and got a doe. the mountainous terrain provided no transportation for the deer and my cabin was 700yds away. i decided to fully process the deer in the field and hike the meat back to the house in backpacks.

i used one knife for the whole job......the esee 4. one might say "use a smaller knife", but the heft of the blade was able to whack through the pelvis bone in 10 wacks. jobs that warranted a saw, like removing the head, was a piece of cake for this stought little blade.

i will say that this is a very good size esee ( RAT ) knife for jobs from chopping to skinning.

if i were to carry one knife, this would be the one. here are some pics of the hunt:

here is my poster shoot of the knife. i will also say to anyone thinking of buying an esee..............the life time warranty (no questions asked) is worth it.

I love my ESEE Izula and I sure wouldn't mind having a 3 or 4 too. They are very well made, rock solid knives!

highorder:

my knife came all desert tan (blade and handle). i oiled the handle up a bit to seal it and it turned a beautiful dark brown-green. i later washed the blood off with dish soap and the knife and handle looked as good as new. the material on the handle is one of my favorite details of the knife.

highorder:

the esee 3 is great too. the esee 3 would have been a tad more ideal for what i was using the esee 4 for. the main difference in the 3 and 4 is blade thickness and handle length. the esee 3 is a darn good handy, tough blade.

I have an ESEE 3 and an Izula II and love them, thinking about an ESEE 5 or 6 for my next one any thoughts?

the esee 5 is thick and the 6 is long. if it were me, i'd go with the 5. its like a mini axe. not sure what you would be using your knife for, but really, you cant go wrong with any of their knives.

the rifle is a Springfield M1A / M14 .308. its got a leupold mark 4 tactical scope on it. i love that gun! maybe i need to start hunting with it with the bayonet attached.:)
