I contacted a fellow (we'll call him "John") from whom I've bought (via eBay) a couple of Swedish EKA Swede 92 folders, but who hasn't listed anything new in a couple of weeks, and asked him when his next set of listings could be expected.
He's usually good for some decent EKA models at reasonable prices.
His response was that, with the fall of the dollar against EU currencies, he's having trouble getting EU knives at prices that will allow him to make any profit. For the time being, he's switching to a USA-based knife maker, and expects to have new listings up in a week or two.
Interesting. And sobering, actually.
I don't buy a whole lot of Euro knives, but I certainly value the Swedish and Finnish offerings.
I might suggest that any of you who have been contemplating such a purchase, but waiting for "the right time" should probably do a quick price survey on your favorite EU brands and see if the prices are still within acceptable tolerances for you.
I'm going to be doing that over the next week and see what I can pick up before this "dollar vs everything else" domino starts messing with affordability.
Naturally, this is all happening while finances are stretched pretty thin. Kind of a Murphy thing.
Anyone else see this going on?
