Even a Loss Will Be A Win, Democrats Say

(CNSNews.com) - Next Tuesday, voters in the San Diego area will head to the polls in a special election to replace Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a Republican who is serving time in prison for bribery.

Democrats say no matter what happens, they've won - because Democrat candidate Francine Busby "has put Republicans on the ropes in a district they bragged was theirs for the taking."

In an email message to supporters, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said that Democrats are setting the tone in a majority Republican district -- "forcing Republicans to frantically spend millions of dollars to defend themselves."

And no matter what happens next Tuesday, "If Francine even comes close, Democrats will send a wave of panic through Republicans everywhere," the DCCC said.

The DCCC also said the special election in San Diego is "just the beginning."

It said it is targeting Republican districts across the country, and that includes running advertisements on Christian radio stations "holding Republicans feet to the fire for trying to privatize Social Security."

The winner of the June 6 runoff election - either Francine Busby or Republican Brian Bilbray - will fill the remaining seven months of Cunningham's term.

Bilbray has attacked Busby for supporting the "earned citizenship" immigration bill that the U.S. Senate passed last week.

But Bilbray's opposition to that bill apparently prompted Sen. John McCain to cancel an appearance at a Bilbray fundraiser on Wednesday.

McCain's staff was quoted as saying that while the Arizona Republican supports Bilbray, the two men "disagree on some of the issues related to immigration reform."

Sen. McCain was a guiding force behind the Senate bill and proposed its guest worker program.

If the Republicans need to spend money and fly in volunteers in 'safe' districts, what are they going to do when it comes time to defend their contested seats?

Last I heard, Republicans were self destructing, nothing for which Democrats should take credit. The Dems have to do more than win by default...maybe like have a plan or something.

More money spent on districts which the Repubs thought there was no real competition in means less money for hotly contested races. This is a "win" for the Dems.

Whats more, realize that most of the electorate is actually not as intelligent as the people of the high road. (thats no big thing, I would contend most of the electorate is not as smart as the people in the DU or any other # of blogspots. Why? They think that privatization of SS has to do with Christianity. They think that SS will still be there for them. They can't name atleast two Supreme Court justices, nor can they name atleast one of their state senators, and won't be able to until around election time, etc, etc.

We study these issues so we care. That being said, after the last few years, I'd say most Repubs have burned any possibility of me taking them any more seriously than the Democrats.

This is obviously a very specific, local situation which can't be applied generally to the nation as a whole. The encumbent was booted out of office. If you want to extrapolate this to other districts where the encumbent was removed due to criminal charges and convictions, have at it.

Typical leftist drivel. They're always more concerned with appearances than with achievments.

"It doesn't matter if we lose this election. If it looks like we scared 'em a little, that'll be a victory for us."

How pathetic.

Agreed.

I can't seem to vote for anybody, and the lesser evil thing seems to have run it's course.

Third party, I guess, but, in the end, the people lose.

Perhaps there's another way, but I don't know of it, and this seems to be one of the times that mere tools won't solve the problem

:(

Fixed it for you.

There are but a handful of "republicans" in the whole country that are a real threat to their agenda - the rest are working for the same end.
Have you taken a look at their agenda lately? If you think the bulk of what the Republicans are doing is serving Democrat agenda, you must not be paying very close attention to what's happening these days.

Ok; I am not paying close attention.

Let's see .....

$8+ trillion dollar debt and climbing rapidly. The U.S. dollar - along with the whole country - is well underway to a shipwreck.

$2.7 trillion still unaccounted for in the Defense Department alone; this does not count the rest of the Federal government.

Overall taxation levels rivalling some Euro provinces.

Steering our country towards being a Pan-American province.

A currently unagreed figure of illegals in this country - let's say very conservatively - at 15 million, and rapidly climbing with thousands coming every day. Along with a de facto amnesty in waiting.

An ever-growing gov bureaucracy, along with a runaway Judiciary, a continuing erosion of the Federal recognition of the even basic rights of American citizens under the guise of a phoney but perpetual "drug war" and a perpetual "war on terror".

And still funding and actively taking part in the operation of a global criminal terrorist cartel otherwise known as the "United Nations".

Point me towards this mysterious "republican" agenda that contradicts me.

That is just a start. If you want to discuss those subjects do a keyword search and you will find existing threads. I'll be happy to elaborate and add more.
