Ever Get Upset With Your Press?

It has been many years since I got mad at a machine. I have become frustrated at my lack in ability to have them function how I want them too though.

As a child I had destroyed a thing or two in frustration. I still remember the moment I learned getting upset just wasn't the right path for me. I was still a teenager and working on something important to me, enough so that I didn't want to damage it but wanted to vent my frustration, so I walked to the nearest tree and punched it.

I laughed then as I do now thinking back on the moment and asking myself "and how exactly did that help solve the problem?"

It hurt bad enough that now I just, walk away until I have come up with another soultion, with a clear head they are easier to find than with the blinders anger puts on us.

Nope, not the press. I have stared in wonder at my powder measures before.

(Almost always fixed with a static removing process of some sort)

My first only real press was and is a Dillon 550. I bought it used, but it came with all sorts of accessories and gadgets. I feel like it was a good choice and it has served me well.

I don't prime on my press and never will.....

Yes, that's right - I chopped it clean off! .

===========================================================================

I finally got my first progressive several months ago.
I ordered & received my Brand New In The Box Dillon 550.

So........ I don't prime on my press and never will.....
Yes, that's right - I chopped the Primer Tube clean off!
LOL!!!

I guess that makes at least two of us.

Just to be clear guys, I wasn't actually mad at the press, but I had been looking for a solution to the primer tube for awhile. It was always in my way

Glad it's not just me!

1030171200.jpg Under 1/2" @100 with my lee single stage. About the cheapest press out there. Im not upset.

I’m currently mad at my press. For some reason it hasn’t unpacked itself, built the new bench and set itself up.

Seriously, no if I do my part my presses behave.

^ maybe. But me and my single stage lee still outshoot every factory loaded round I've ever tried. My six shooters, bolts, levers, pumps, breaks, etc. I have found a sweet spot reloading with my old lee for each and every one. So like I said, Im not upset with my press. As a reloader, you can't lose imo.

I meant to get some pictures as a follow-up, but I ran out of time today. I have been depriming a ton of 9mm cases (what a pain) for several days now and my modification has made a huge difference for me already.

I also made some modifications to my ejection chute. Apparently during one of my many moves the chute got bent up slightly, causing 9mm cases - and only those - to get stuck from time to time.

No.

But then, I have an RCBS Reloader Special (from the days before they added compound leverage) that I've used for the last 38 years without a press-related problem.

I have the RCBS JR (Junior) that I got in a kit from the Army PX in 1975. It has never failed me. I also use 3 other presses and none of them have failed me. 2 are single stage and one is a Lee 4 hole turret.
kwg

Why, I've never been mad at my press.
Jesse, Spare the punches they are innocent and look to be subject to shot spreading if you are using lead shot on a steel press.:)
I think you need to aim lower to get it in the vitals.

What shot size do you recommend for presses a 5'?

Never had any problems but I'm only using single stage presses
RCBS Rockchucker
Lyman orange crusher
I only use hand priming tools

The only time I ever swore at my Lee turret was when I was going too fast and caught my index finger between the resizing die and the top of a 38 shell. I’m here to say that a decapping pin will in fact punch through a fingernail with not much pressure at all. Luckily Lee presses are painted red so the blood doesn’t show :D

I have a lee turret press, and every so often that square indexing nut will aggravate me. Especially so when i dont have a spare.
