Ever had your choice of CCW "dissed"by others?

Looks like I may have hit a sore point with a lot of people. Bottom line is that you use what is the most reliable, accurate and affordable for YOU. Caliber, style, and type are a personall choice, and what "works"for one may not work for all.

Gee, I see lots of 1911 patterns in tactical classes and matches. I see lots of Glocks. There is mutual respect. There is discussion of 1911 reliability but not of the utility of the gun if it works.

Sigmas - nah - Oops, never mind!

Yep you can tell the mall ninjas from the rest. My everywhere gun is a Kel-Tec P32 with a Raspberry grip frame. The folks that are insecure can’t understand why anyone who wasn’t gay would carry one. The real savvy folks realize that if someone sees a corner in my pocket no one will believe that it is a gun. The second plus is when the BG disingenuously claims that you drew/pointed the gun at him ask the cop to have them describe it.

I have a good friend who carries a S&W 3913 Lady Smith.

don't forget about us H&K guys. we're all tactical posers that are carrying overpriced tupperware junk. why would pay such a high price for a gun when you can get a Glock? right? oh well. c'est la vie.

My personal favorite is when someone calls .45 ACP an antiquated caliber, and then tells you to get a 9mm.
Mine is people who claim the 9mm is a pipsqueak, but a .38 snubbie is serious armament.

Oh, sure. Since I both generally carry and generally recommend a lightweight snubby revolver, that choice comes in for a fair amount of criticism, most frequently from folks who are sure that their "latest and greatest" semiauto is the perfect choice.

After qualifying for CCW, all of the Para, Glock and 1911 people were gathered around my mysterious pistol....the only one that did not jam during the qualification [12 students]. They then MARVELED at the lowly Makarov!

People diss my Maks all the time, especially the guys at work. They always bring Glocks, 1911s, S&W, and other high dollar guns, and got outshot. They always end up shooting one of my Maks, but wouldn't be caught dead carrying one.

I am catching some flak in some corners for carrying a CZ-83 .380 some of the time. Ineffective pipsqueak round. Gun too big for caliber. So be it. It is a very well engineered piece that has virtually no recoil, very accurate, excellent trigger pull, and pretty easy to hide. Oh yeah, I almost forgot it has 13+1 capacity. I'll take something like this over a newfangled plastic geewhizbang wondernine anyday.

My other carry gun is a obsolete, beat-up, very well used Colt LW Commander.

Oh, sure! I've been told: "Yeah, that .380 will do to hold someone off until you can get to a real gun!" :fire:
My reply: "Get back with me after you've been shot by one. If you can."

I get this as well and I don't know why, mostly b/c they have never heard of it (my makarov) and are insecure that they have spent more money on some other plastic fantastic, even funnier is when a guy I know rags on my mak and sold his only pistol while still having his ccw - i asked him how useful that permit was now!, I just can't understand people sometimes.

After I replaced my recoil spring on my mak I have never had it jam. I like it a lot. :D

At one time or another I've carried all of these:

1858 Remington cap n' ball .44
Jennings .22lr
Berretta Model 21
NAA Mini .22lr
NAA Mini .22 magnum
Ruger Standard Automatic (Mk 1)
Colt 1903 .32
NAA Guardian .32
Keltec P-32
Makarov 9mm combloc
Keltec 9mm
Glock 17
Glock 19
Beretta Model 92fs
HK USP 40
S&W 4566
Springfield 1911 milspec
S&W 686
S&W Model 15
Ruger Security Six

Somebody has always found each of them to be the wrong choice.

Yep, when carrying the 1911 (especially with the 7 round mag instead of an 8 round mag) or the Colt 1908 in .380.

WildAlaska, just noticed that you are manager of Wild West Guns. I bought an Alaskan Co-pilot .45-70 parkerized with ghost ring sites from Cabelas. It is beautiful! You guys do great work. Keep it up! :)

There are J.O.'s in any situation. Some don't like your computer, some don't like your truck, some don't like your ATV, guns are no exception. Only happened once, I asked the guy if he would let me shoot him in knee with my miserable caliber choice - 9mm. He didn't. I made my choice in all of the above and I am happy with them. What some other yahoo has to say is his business not mine. Water off a duck's back. :)

That's incredible...either these people just do not clean their guns or they're all limp-wristing or a combo of both. I think we could all agree that a well-made 1911 is not inferior in design to a Makarov. I personally believe the same about Glock. It's not like 1911s and Glocks are known as jam-o-matics.

I used to get all worked up about these type comments. In fact, I went to a briefing this weekend for a Polite Society match. I wondered if anyone would say anything 'cause I carry a P229 9mm. The range officer carried a big ole Glock 45. He was totally cool about my weapon and caliber, as were all the guys. They just care if I get rounds on target. I think I found a home!

I had a West Columbia police officer tell me during a traffic stop a few years ago that I should, "find a safer weapon than a cocked and locked 1911."   Yeah, I guess my 4 safeties are inferior to the 3 on your Glock

Other than that, I usually get the, "did you know your gun is cocked/is your gun supposed to be cocked" questions. I used to explain, now I just say, "YES."

As far as I know, other than my gunshop owner only two people know that I carry. One of them carries a .380 Colt Government. The other, like me, carries a .45ACP 1911. The only discussion we have is over his notion that it's better to carry ball ammo in winter because he feels hollow points won't penetrate heavy winter jackets.

Dear oneshooter,

Lemme tell you what, if anyone were to say MY Commander in .45acp were an antique in an obsolete caliber...I'd be more offended than if they called my Momma a robot!

I carry a Glock most of the time now, but I have the most tender of spots in my heart for any 1911, and Browning Hi Power.

So.....PPPFPPFPFFFTFTFTFTFFTFFTTTTTTT! to them!
