Ever have a gun pulled on you?

at work,,,

where else?

drunk first shifter (actually nicknamed bubba) comes in with his 30/30 lookin' for the second shifter who owed him a little $

i'm the first one he see's so he points it at me and asks where (dont remember his name) is

i said, "don't you point that thing at me" and he raised the muzzle

i was unarmed

i told him i didnt know and just walked right past him and headed for the nearest phone.

the intended victim(?) caught wind of all this and skeedaddled out the back door and disappeared

so bubba made his way back out and headed on home.

still mad and with no money

then his wife (whom we called Mama) took his guns away

so then some wiseacre scribbles a little graffitti "bubba's got a gun" a twist on the aerosmith song, on the wall near the time clock

and some other wiseacre scribbles underneath it "but mama took it away"

he got himself off the hook by claiming it was a bb gun

and everybody loved bubba cause he was a good guy, and had been at the company forever, so,,,

that was the biggest bore i've ever seen on a bb gun, and i got a real good look

it finally came to be known as "the large caliber bb gun incident"

i'm glad it turned out to be a somewhat funny story

and not another bad one on the evening news

was getting back into the ambulance after not transporting a patient who'd called for a hamster bite (yes, 911 for a hamster bite. nothing a little merthiolate couldn't fix on the scene, though). it was about 11pm in a not so good portion of the city. my partner and i were loading up when we heard a scuffle down the street, and a car screeching. we never really saw what was going on, we just instantly got that need-to-get-the-heck-outta-there feeling... leaped into the ambulance and sped away through some backroads... in about 10-15 seconds after we started we heard gunshots in the background, in another minute the call went out for a GSW right where we had just been, standby position about 2 blocks farther out than when we'd heard the gunshots.

another time, much earlier, was attempting to talk a mentally unstable woman into going with us to the hospital peacefully after a suicide attempt. suddenly an enormous dog barrels down the stairs towards us, with what appeared to be her roommate being dragged behind the dog by a leash, falling down the stairs after her. LEO beside me, in a flahs, positions, draws, and takes aim at the dog, and the thing just freezes about 4 feet away from us, just as he was about to leap. mouth closed, standing, frozen. dog knew what it meant to have a gun pointed at him. or maybe it was the way the LEO was poised or something. either way, I almost had a heart attack, especially since i was still quite new at this time.

Yup, twice, once in high school and once again a few years later. I've taken steps since then to avoid such situations & to be able to defend myself if such situations occur again.

Twice for me also - both times in the performance of my job (no I'm not a LEO and I'm no longer doing the same kind of work).

The first time I was not prepared (unarmed) and was seriously outnumbered (8-1). Thankfully they were satistied with just giving me a severe beating. I took my licking and kept on ticking.
The second time though I was ready with a kevlar vest and a .38 in a pocket shoot-through holster aimed at the clown's chest. He must have sensed something was up because in spite of the urging of his "buddies" - he backed down.

My work still has its risks, but day-to-day life is now proving to have even greater potential dangers.

I'll never be unprepared again.

Yea.

Once indirectly on a very busy street in a major European city. Prep being chased by undercover cop with guns drawn - cop commanding perp to halt or be shot. I went down on one knee real fast. The sheep around me did not even seem to notice or care. That was weird.

Other time with American friend at Berlin wall near Potsdammer Platz observation platform. Took picture (camara with a 300mm Telephoto lens) of Guard tower and saw MG and high powered binoculars aimed at us. Gave my friend a real shock. His eyes just lit up when he noticed the MG aimed at us as he commented an that fact. He was more awed by the wall after that than before I took him to it.

When I was a kid in high school some buddies and I were being driven around by one of our friends older brothers with a few cases of cheap beer in the trunk. Just driving around getting drunk. High School.

We pull into a Cumberland Farms convienience store and a friend gets out to go in for a pack of gum. He gets about 10 steps out of the car when 3 cop cars come screaming into the parking lot, doors swing open, guns come out and the cops take cover behind the car doors aimed at both us in the car and my buddy on his way into the store...who, even as drunk as he was, froze like he saw Medusa.

The store owner comes out of the door waving his arms yelling '"It's not them, it's not them!"

Turns out that a car that looked like ours had been driving by the store, casing the place and the cops were just waiting for him to come back.

We thought we were done for. :)

Hops, can you post the pic?

At age 10, was approached by a cop with a drawn revolver while I was shooting a BB gun in a neighbor's backyard. Evidently, a couple ricochets had hit another house and the owner called the police, reporting a kid with a gun.

At age 16, experienced one of the "looking across the W-E German border with binos and seeing someone pointing a rifle directly at me" scenarios.

In college, I wasn't drawn on, but I was present at a small party when a guest pulled a very large knife on the host. The host ran into the back and came out with a Colt AR-15. Things were very tense for a couple minutes, and then settled down once the idjit with the knife came to his senses and split.

All in all, a bunch of nothing. I'd like it to stay that way.

Yes, was walking out of a bar and these 2 guys blocked the door, when I asked *** is up, one of them pulled a small gun out. I said have a nice day and was out of there in a flash. If I was timed on that exit, would have won a gold medal.

I had a man try to pull a revolver on me once. I say "try" because the hammer got hung up on his leather jacket's slant-cut pocket. Fortunately he was within arm's reach. I reached. Off to jail he went in the end.

OH yeah. It was the late 80s or thenabouts and I was driving around a large abandoned real estate development, looking for a place to fly model airplanes. All at once a truck and a van zoom up and do a fairly professional road block on me. (They had DADE COUNTY tags:uhoh: ) Short guy wearing cammies gets out of the van, tall guy holding some kind of auto shotgun gets out of the p/u. Shotgun had split at small of stock (buttstroke wear'n tear?) repaired with tape. Thinks:" Uh-Oh, [my name], I wonder if your time has come? There's a convenient canal right there which'll hold me AND my truck! Gators in it, too." Short guy spoke English (sort of) and it developed that these two were doing a little self-help common law police work, looking for someone who had burgled their stuff. After they saw I had nothing in the truck but airplanes they tried to get all apologetic and friendly, but I "just now remembered an urgent appointment" and left with all deliberate speed.

Lessons learned:
1.The colors really are brighter, the smells stronger, etc. after having been scared half to death.
2.Pay attention, have a plan, arm one's self, etc.

I didn't turn them in as I was already a little bit frosty about LEOs and Mr. Shotgun never actually quite pointed the thing at me. (Unlike a lot of LEOs around here, he had SOME manners) Didn't go around there for quite a while, though. I read later in the local papers that the Sheriff, Feds et al had shut down a "paramilitary training camp" in the very near vicinity.:what:

A few times. Always by cops. I ask you, what kind of a cop pulls an MP5 on a 'suspect' who is handcuffed behind his back laying on the ground? I got mad and yelled at him "*** is your problem, can't you see I'm subdued already?" or something to that effect. He lowered it thankfully.

I (think) I understand cops sometimes pointing guns at suspects before they get things sorted out, but that was ridiculous. He could plainly see my hands in cuffs and his buddy was pretty much in his line of fire too, right behind me.:fire:

Yes.

Once in High Skool. Dang 45 Long Colt. Thankfully never heard any bang. He went on his way.

Once at work. It was late and I was cleaning the autoshop. Dude came in to steal his truck. We were expecting it and had disabled the truck. Also we were expecting this so I was prepared. (This was before Texas CHL) During his exit, he saw me on the phone and got out with a short barrelled pistol gripped shotty. Then decided to leave when he noticed I had the drop on him with my pistol. I never will forget this one excerpt from my conversation with the police dispatcher.

Me-"If he starts towards me I'm gonna empty this gun!"

Dispatcher-"You do what you need to, to protect yourself."

Me-"Yes-mam"

I do remember how calm I was. Didn't shake 'till it was over. Couldn't hardly walk then.

Yep!

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=38682 ...
I had to fly out to GA for a one day business trip and since I had to be there first thing in the morning, I took a red-eye flight out. Our wonderful travel department, who booked the entire trip (air, hotel, car rental, etc.) did not bother to arrange for a late check-in because I didn't specifically ask for one. I ASSUMED that since they knew when my plane was getting in (since they booked the flight) it would have just been common sense to arrange for a late check it but I was wrong -- this'll teach me to never assume anything.

When I got to the hotel, I learned that my room was released at 6PM (at 6pm I was still packing my bags) and they were sold out. Here it is almost midnight and I'm in a strange place and I have to be showered, shaved and be ready to make my presentation in about 8 hours. I called around and finally found a place that had rooms to rent. The woman who gave me the driving directions on how to get there was in a bit of a rush and I had to write things down in shorthand (not official "shorthand" but my own form of shorthand).

I quickly discovered that there are a lot of streets name "Peach Tree" this or "Peach" that in the Atlanta/Alpharetta area. As a result, the more I drove, the more useless my directions became and the more lost I got. I eventually found myself driving around in a residental/park area with no clue on how to get to where I needed to be and no idea on how to even get back to a main street/highway.

I finally came upon some flashing blue lights and I decided to get out of the car and ask the LEO for directions. I made my way through the bushes and approached the LEO, whose back was toward me. Hearing the noise behind her, she turned and pointed her firearm at me. I didn't realize this when I was making my way toward her but it turned out that she was holding two suspects at gun point waiting for additional back-up to arrive and now it was three suspects as I was ordered to get face down on the ground.

When her back-up arrived we were able to clear everything up (I showed them my plane ticket indicating that I just got into town a couple of hours ago and they verified with the hotel that I HAD a reservation but my room was released and therefore my story about getting lost while looking for a hotel checked out) and they even gave me an escort to the hotel that I was looking for -- which I thought was very nice of them.

Yes, I was a clerk at 24/7 grocery in 1979. Two gentlemen seeking immediate cash... One fellow had a .45 ACP at my chest and the other had a Ruger 10/22 to my forehead... I thought I was going to meet Jesus Christ ... I could tell you some of the things that happened to me that morning but, few readers would believe it!

I had a gun pulled on the guy next to me once. It was a "going away" party for a guy on our team in the mid 70's, held at a private house. We invited two exotic dancers for entertainment. It was pretty calm until one of the guys brought a friend who was not on our team. No one was paying too much attention but apparently he was trying to paw the dancers as they passed by him. All of a sudden one of the dancers jumped away from him and began screaming at him. As we watched this scene unfold the other dancer jumped into the middle with a small revolver and had it pointed at his head from about two feet, and the hammer cocked. She was screaming also. As everyone just froze and watched I kinda reached up and took the gun from her hand, brought it to the next room and unloaded it. Once we calmed down we gave her the gun, the bullets, a nice tip and considered the party to be over.

Two times and an "almost", all during my misspent youth. First two were by police, and the second time I was old enough to go to jail for a few nights.

Third time a tough acting dude reached under his jacket during a slight disagreement. We were not far off of a major street, and I just "bellied" up to the guy. Got real close so I could have nailed him before he pulled anything out. I looked him straight in the eye and talked to him until he realized we were at a stalemate. Then I convinced him to walk with me to the street so we could part in peace.
