Did you ever say, for whatever reason, I'll never own one of those ( insert brand ) guns? And then find you not only bought one, but bought several of them?

For me, that would be Glocks. At one time, I just felt they were unsafe. I like manual safeties. And stories of people getting "Glock leg syndrome" just supported that opinion.

Well, a really stupid trade at a gunshow ( still pissed at myself all these years later ) made me the owner of the newly released G26. I loved it. No Glock fanboy, but over the years I've owned 7 Glocks. Currently have 3, and one is that same G26.

Certain models of guns, but not a whole brand (Well, OK, Bryco, Jennings, and Raven. But I've never owned them, though I did carry my Dad's J-22 around for a while.) The Glock 21 I had didn't like 185 LSWC, and would malfunction when I had a light on it. (Found out later this was a known issue with the 2nd Gen 21's.)

LoL! It was Glocks for me, too. I never liked the way they felt in my hand. Then my FiL got a police trade-in Glock 22 for cheap. After I shot it, my opinion changed. I bought one of those police trade-ins for myself and liked it (under $400 OTD with box and 2-3 mags). Then I got a conversion barrel and magazine so I could swap it back and forth to 9mm. Then I bought a Model 34... and a Model 26. I like them all. I'm not a fanboy, but I like them and shoot them about as well as most service pistols. Never say never.

Twenty years ago when I saw the online pics of boxes of TT-33 and CZ-52 pistols I had no intention of buying a TT-33 ... because of its quaint, antiquated appearance.

The CZ-52s, on the other hand, looked very interesting to me.

Long story short, within a year I had worked with one of each type and realized that the CZs are heavy, blocky and uncomfortable and the TTs are won-der-ful; comfortable, concealable, accurate, perfectly-fit-my-ungloved(or with thin patrol gloves)-hand and a joy to shoot. :)

As of right now I still have my original 3 CZs, none of them fired since Oct'02 ... and I have accumulated 11 TT-33s/Variants. :D

Yep, couple times. I spent years being a Glock hater until I finally learned to shoot them and became a Glock enthusiast.

Same for DA/SA, I started with them, got enamored with SAO and eventually striker triggers and derided the DA/SA for a few years then, much like Glocks, finally learned how to use them right and now am a fan.

One would think I should learn that all I need to do is learn something to like it :)

I thought I wouldn't own a 10/22, the idea of throwing half the gun away and buying new bits just to get something that worked properly didn't appeal. But I did end up with one, and didn't buy that many new bits for it.

Yes... Yes I have. Three times now - SAME DAMN GUN!
I still don't *like* it but my respect for it is unshakeable.
I bought and sold two prior versions with qualified regret.

It's like that weird cousin that you're pretty sure you don't like but strangely find yourself liking having him around.:D

And, I still regret selling my #20. What the sam-hell was I thinking?:cuss: I wanted a railed model but sold the one I had before finding a Gen 4. Makes me one of the dumbest of basses.

Todd.

I bought a lever action long ago and heard people say they multiply.

I thought that was a silly comment until I looked around one day and realized I three of them.

I only have two, and my Remlin's rear sight cracked in half and fell off (need to replace that).

But if things get crazy with autoloader bans (and I can't hunt with my M1A) a .308 Long Ranger is top of my whitetail list.

Oh, yeah. Not a pistol, but ARs. A M4gery is just hard to beat as a lightweight all-around (except large game) utility rifle. Took me decades to find that out.

There are some calibers/uppers you could take large game with, so ... kinda.

That does remind me that when the AWB sunsetted I didn't much care for ARs, but bought one because I could.

These days I prefer them to other rifles, something about them just fits. My .308 AR was a bit heavy but I have high hopes for my 6.5 Grendel as a hunter. Once I can find some more ammo to feed it ...

Yup, AR's. Back in the day I always preferred the Mini-14, it was 100% more reliable (though less accurate) than the first AR (a green label) I owned. When I finally got around to shooting one that worked I relegated the Mini to my offshore boat.

I would never own a Glock. Then a coworker was selling off a pair for a song. A 42 and 21. I bought the 42 with the chance that the wife or I would like it in some EDC role. I ended up selling it a week later for more than the purchase price.

Yup. Well, maybe not exactly eat my words, but close. An enthusiastic gun clerk once practically threw a Glock at me. I went through the motions, pointed it (admittedly it did point well for me) worked the controls and then (with permission) dryfired it. I remember making a face at the "sproing" feeling and I handed it back immediately at that point.

Fast forward a few years and I wanted a 10mm pretty badly. Problem was, at the time, there was a lot of buzz about 10mm tearing up pistols. About that time I read an article about a torture/endurance test of a Glock 20 that held up to 20,000 rounds of 10mm. I decided that I could hold my nose and buy a Glock if that's what it took to get me a 10mm that I could count on shooting a lot without worrying about breakage/wear.

I owned that Glock for exactly one day before I bought my second. :D

Glocks Kinda, I really didnt like them. Then I played with a P80 for a while and really liked the way THAT one felt....Shot it and went back to not liking them. Shoot my buddies glocks, and dont like them either.
Any gun that makes me bleed is on the "nope" list, and what makes the glocks so nice is that really low bore axis and the slide right over the hand. Except for me it rubs my thumb knuckle with my "normal" shooting grip.
Ive got a few other guns that go the other way. I SHOULD really like them but dont....but glocks the only one that I went from EWWWW...to COOL....then unfortunately back to nah....

I have only said that about calibers I know I would never have need for, .44 mag and larger, not pleasant to shoot on a regular basis, expensive, and for me no real life application. But never have I dismissed a brand or type of handgun based on untested opinion.

Bought a 21 the minute they came out decades ago. Could not hit the side of a barn from inside the barn with it. (More me than the gun, insisted on lead reloads) sold it on the floor of the Fort Meyer fun show for $300.00. Neve looked back. There’s a 17 in the gun safe, Christmas gift to my oldest boy on his something young birthday, he’s 54 now. Nobody shoots it but it’s his not mine.
Polymer anything in guns is just not my bag I guess.
Wood and steel. Rubber hand grips on pistols is good though. :)

Glocks:
Hated them without ever touching one...because all my friends hated them. Because at every gun show the “us vs them” bias was prevalent.
Then I gave my, at the time, only 1911 to my daughter when my wife and I moved to North Carolina. I got invited to an IDPA match but didn’t have a semi auto pistol or a DA revolver. The guy that invited me loaned me a Glock 17.
To be polite I accepted his offer. By the 4th stage I really liked that thing. By the last stage I had decided to buy one. I have liked them ever since. I haven’t owned a 1911 since. I may end up with another, though. Got the .45 ACP bug again.

Cowboy guns:
Single actions and lever guns. Had ZERO interest in them. Then in 1997 I heard this ad on the radio about “The End of Trail. A Cowboy Action Shooting World Championship and Extravaganza! Come see cowboys in action, see the sights. Walk through a mock old western town, have a real sasspirilla, bring the kids, see the fastest draw alive, shoot a real Gatling gun with live ammunition...” I didn’t hear another thing except where it was located...Norco California. Less than 50 miles away.
We went. I was hooked. SHOT ME A GATLING GUN! :D Joined SASS.
I love my single actions, my lever guns and my side by side shotguns.

Yep. Glocks.

I want to be a 1911 guy. Tried everything out there. Glock was the last pistol type I tried. And it smoked everything else. Shot timers on USPSA practice courses don't lie.

While there is a trend for heavier pistols, that trend hurts swing weight. Since the Glock has a light recoil in proportion to it's light weight, it usually handles excellent. Fat grip is easier to hang onto. Quick reloads. No safeties, my thumbs can go wherever they want to.

Maybe the DWX can win me back. Or someone will copy the Alien. Getting tired of waiting for either of those.
