Have a moderate collection of autos but not one wheel gun, so I pulled the trigger and added one. I think I am going to enjoy it. I choose this SW 627 PC 357mag, because it looks like a no non-sense all business wheel gun. Comes with moon clips. Any reports from those who have shot one?

Blood Work Gun

You are going to like it, after all Clint Eastwood did in the movie Blood Work

I've got one of the 1st generation ones (no lock) and really like it. There are some other subtle differences like the front sight and the hammer-to-frame fit at the top.

I've not used the moon clips...works great without them. Probably not the best in the looks department, but I prefer the Pachmayr Compaq grips (2nd pic) to the original ones for carrying and shooting.

I have Craig Spegel grips on it in this pic...still prefer the Pachmayrs. Pouch has an 8-cartridge speed strip from Tuff Products.

Wow! good first revolver, mine was a cheap 22. I didnt get my first Smith until a 686-4 years later.

I predict you will like your choice.

The 627 in various configurations in both .357 magnum and .38 super are favorites with high end competitors. I have a 5" version that is like a battleship and holds tight due to the weight for good shots in competition.

Great choice! I couldn't believe S&W re-released the PC627 UDR - and got the first one I found locally 4/10. I liked it so much, I sold an old friend to fund a 'backup' - another one! Oddly, the 1999-2000 price was MSRP $1,199 - in an Al & plastic PC case (Made in the PRC!). In 2010, it was re-introduced at $1,185 MSRP - and now is $1,049! It now comes in a US-made grey plastic case.

The revolver looks the same as the initial offering, save the IL being added. Also, the Eagle boot grips were designed for the then earlier hammer mounted fp N-frame RB's - and their radii at the upper front behind the trigger guard is different from the frame-mounted fp models. Grips for the newer designed frames fit the older ones, those for the older models may leave a gap at the upper front on newer frames. Such is the case with many of the UDR's. None of the re-releases my local shop got, including my pair, had properly fitting Eagle boots. S&W finally got me a pair that fit - and I decided they were just too small. If your set doesn't fit well, contact S&W CS - they will send you a pre-paid FEDEX ground label. I got a PC Shop grip from S&W Accessories (~$60 shipped) and liked it so well, I bought my second one a set:

My only misgiving with getting a PC627 UDR as a first revolver is simple... what is next?? How do you top that?? Congratulations.

PS Checkout 5starfirearms.com - they have a nicely made and quite functional speedloader and loading baseplates available - they work quite well, too!
