My first impressions on getting into wheel guns

I see a percussion revolver in the not-so-distant future....!

Stoke a wheelie with blackpowder and watch the fireworks.

Are we sharing "our first time" stories?

A Trooper Mk III in a Dothan, AL gun-shop in 1976. Couldn't afford a Python on a slick sleeve Airman's salary.

Haven't regretted the path since. There have been a few semis. Mostly limited to Ruger .22's and 1911's, didn't care for the HP trigger. But my wheel guns know where my first love lies.

I felt like I was selling out a few months ago buying an SA XD 9mm. Felt like owning 1 hi-cap piece of Tupperware was required. Still in it's box unfired. Revolvers will do MOST of what any man requires and I feel well armed.

Just wait till you get your mitts on a S&W model 14 or 15.
It's very possibly the perfect .38 Special revolver.

I love shooting both revolvers and semi autos. I think people miss out on a lot of fun by not shooting both.

You picked a 4" GP-100?

Well... GREAT CHOICE!!! They are just about the best full size .357 magnum revolver currently being made, in my opinion. You will not wear it out and it will serve you very well for many decades to come! I really like my 6" version in stainless:

Happiness is a solid .357 wheel gun:)

I prefer the Vaquero but the GP is a great gun. If I could only have one gun, my SP101 in .357 might be my choice.

Amen

Welcome.

Revolvers are not sexy to kids now days.

But those who appreciate the mecahnics and workmanship of a fine firearm are ..... hooked.

Average gunfight is done in 2.5 rounds.

Seems to me 6(six) is plenty.

Don't get me wrong: love my 1911 but still not a plastic fantastic with unlimited magazine capacity.

Never felt undergunned.

Enjoy your new revolver: shoot the snot out of it.

It will last a life time; then, hand it down.

This is a great thread! I really wanted an old SW .38 for camping - I had shot a friend's and really enjoyed it.

I ran into an old Colt Police .38 that had been refinished, so had lost the collector value. Fortunately it came home with me. Unfortunately I dropped it on the steps trying to sneak it into the house; now it wears an idiot mark on its heal.

That just makes it yours, now!

You picked a good solid choice with the 4" GP-100. Hope you continue to enjoy it. The thing I notice about DA centerfire revolvers is that I actually enjoy reloading them where as the bottom feeders are just there.
