Jugg3rnaut,
Thank You For Your Service! and welcome to the forum.

Many people will give you their opinion on what yo buy but not because it's the best tool for the job but because it's their favorite pistol. You will have to try and find a range with loaner guns and shoot as many as you can. Find out which you shoot the best and which is the most comfortable to YOU, then you will know what to buy.

One thing, many Agencies are now moving away from the 9mm because they have found that the round is inadequate for the job. I'm not going to debate that point because it's all in the stats but you might want to think about that. Several large State Police Agencies are even trading in their .40 S&W pistols and going back to the .45 ACP or .45 GAP.

I would also suggest you not base your choice upon how well it will conceal while off-duty. A service weapon is just that and you should get one that will be the most reliable because your life and the lives of others just may hinge upon your weapon performing when needed. Most, if not all LEO's will buy a dedicated service weapon and a BUG which they will carry as their off-duty weapon.

Good luck and be safe...

Amen to that.

Welcome home, and welcome to THR.

Not all that long ago I was in your shoes. Use your GI bill to study something that will give you a career. Security guard isn't much of a life-long career.

Get yourself a pistol for you, not for some job you don't even have yet. You mentioned you live in PA. If you're nearby, we can meet at my local range in Lewisberry and I'll let you try out what I've got.

Buy yourself a concealed carry gun first. Some gun stores with shooting ranges will let you rent pistols to try out. You can qualify with your concealed carry pistol, then when you are hired at a armed security company, buy what they require. Besides I've yet to meet anyone who shoots regularly who owns just one or to pistols.
