Well, any gunnie who sees Dawn 2004 notes the marvelous amount of screentime Ving's 870 gets in the movie (more than some of the minor characters, in fact :) ).

My question is, is this an 870 Police with a wooden stock and parkerized finish, or a regular Wally World-type 870 Express with a shorter barrel? I've been on the hunt for my first 12 gauge (already have a 20 ga. stock 870 Express), and I thought it would be neat to get a shotgun like the one in the movie. :D

Does anyone know what type of foreend that was? SureFire? Something else? I'm not very knowledgable about 870 mods, so any help appreciated. Thanks!

I'm positive that it was a Surefire fore end. Other than that I'm not sure. I was too distracted by all of the blood and exploding heads. :) Holy crap that movie gave me the heebie jeebies.

I believe it was an 870P #4915. And Dawn of the Dead was the best movie I've seen since Zoolander. Just kidding! (about the Zoolander thing, that is)

Are you sure? The 4915 is one of the synthetic stocked versions, correct? I thought Ving's shottie had a wooden stock...I could be wrong, though. Guess I'll have to watch the movie again...;)

The butt was wooden, but it looked black most of the time because he was in the dark. Great weapon for clearing a building, but give me an AK-47 for facing down a crowd of zombies sprinting towards me. Of course, a Blackhawk with a GE-134 minigun would be cool, too.

I believe it had bead sights. No raised rib. I also seem to recall a wood stock, but like was pointed out, it was usually in the dark. Then he ended up with a Mossberg later on.

I guess if this happened nobody would question the tactical utility of my speedloading trick! :D

Is that movie any good? (I haven't seen it.)

Correia - What is your speedloading trick?

Steve

I guess it was the lighting, sure looked like it had a black synthetic stock. They should have mentioned the gun as part of the cast in the credits, as much on-screen time as it had.

Anyone else notice when he had to flick the safety switch off for that one guy with a Mossberg (I think) right before the scene in the underground parking garage?:D

"Dawn of the Dead" - great movie! Especially for the shotgun fans.

Ving's 870 was a wooden-stocked Police model with a Surefire foreend and no mag extension. You can actually see him screwing the light onto the front during one of the group shots in the mall (Ving will be on the right side of the screen). I think he was supposed to be installing it on a second 870 (that came via the truck of other survivors). I also had the impression that Ving's 870 had a 20-inch barrel. It certainly had a bead sight. Model #4897 would be my best guess.

Bob - yeah the Mossberg became active with a flip of the safety switch! That was one of several pro gun scenes in the movie.

Anyway, go see the movie. It is really well done for a zombie flick. It will also make you want to buy more guns and stock up on LOTS of ammo.

"You know how to use that?"

"Yea, this is the dangerous end."

Ving flips off Mossberg safety.

"Now it is."

OT sorta as regards zombie movies ...

Reminds me of when I went to the Trap line the first time after a detail clean of an 870; when I called for the bird the trigger wouldn't move  I never engage the safety ... except when the trigger group is removed from the receiver. Lessons -- it's always good to release the safety early and check before walking to the line and looking like a rookie. Fine, so I'm a rookie :)

Back to zombies... ;)
