I want to share my experience, thus far, with the Excel Accelerator semi-auto pistol (22WMR). This gun is also available in .17 HMR; but I do not own one so I can not comment.
1. Ordered the gun (comes with 2 magazines) + extra mag. through my local dealer - it took Excel Arms 60 days to deliver. Four calls from my dealer had 4 separate excuses: 're-tooling, unexpected back-log, "Cinco de Mayo" stopage, mailed out a week ago'.
2. Got the gun, got four boxes of 22 WMR (4 separate brands), went to the range.
a. None of the brands would feed through all 3 magazines constantly. The ridge on the slide that is supposed to push the rear of the shell sometimes misses thus mangling the shell.
b. When the slide is pulled back and a full magazine loaded, depressing the slide release does not ALWAYS release the slide. A sharp tap with the palm to the back of the slide will close it.
c. When the magazine is empty the slide does not stay open.
d. The trigger pull is 10.5 pounds (verifies by certified gun smith using trigger pull checking tool).
d. Called Excel Arms about problems: standard answer "well it takes 200 rounds to smooth any problems; to 'break in' the gun" and "Any gun smith can work on the trigger pull."
My gunsmith was the armorer for the US Marines Shooting Team, he is now a respected gun smith in our area; he looked at the pistol and felt that a trigger job would be very costly and might not help the pull problem because the trigger pin is imbeded in the plastic frame. He also feels that a 10 pound trigger pull on a 22 pistol is ridiculous !!
I am now awaiting a reply from Excel Arms as to how will they rectify the feeding problems.
Will keep you posted.
The intended use for this arm was as Field Pistol in IHMSA Metallic Silhouettes; for the time being I am sticking with the 'old reliable' TC Contender 10" octagonal 22 WMR.
