Kuhl Arms Co., a newly formed U.S. based custom shop, will soon officially announce its new project, the XM1911A2 or the Next Gen Single Action Pistol. This weapon is intended to make John Browning's classic design into a fully modern machine designed to blow away both full metal and polymer autoloaders in the duty/combat pistol category. The XM1911A2 will be available in the following calibers from launch: .45 Auto, 10mm, .40 S&W, 9mm, all models sport the following features:

-Carbon Fiber parts: The frame, as well as the magazines, grip safety, magazine release, slide release, grips, and mainspring housing are crafted from aircraft quality naked carbon fiber for very light weight.

-Full length guide rod custom tuned to tame the recoil of the wily 10mm and .45 ACP calibers and to make the recoil of .40 S&W and 9x19mm almost unnoticeable.

-CNC machined carbon steel or aluminum (in the 9mm variant) slide with scalloped front and rear slide serrations for maximum tactile feedback.

-Picatinny Rail running the length of the frame, from trigger guard to the front of the gun.

-High Cap magazines: Proprietary Kuhl Arms staggered magazines allow for 15 rounds of .45 ACP or 10mm power with only slightly increased frame width.

-Match grade stainless barrel.

-Extended slide release and thumb safety.

-Skeletonized carbon fiber trigger with 4.5 pounds of pull.

-Ultra-Safe firing mechanism with failure rates below those of "Safe-Action" DAO pistols.

-Tritium high profile night-sights with a no-snag design.

So, what do you guys think of this baby?

Sounds expensive...

Carbon fiber magazines and frames? sounds great untill you drop one and it cracks.

Full length guide rods "tame recoil"?

That's a new one.

1911s never have needed FLGRs, and neither does this one...the whole thing reeks of tacti-cool.

I'm curious where this information came from. Does this company have a website or was this a press release?

If there were a poll option titled "doesn't care" I'd check it. If I want a 1911, I'll buy a 1911.

A gun from a company I've never heard of with no track record and no website and no presence in the industry...who cares? If their buddies are willing to pay custom house prices for things like "carbon fiber" and a "match grade" barrel and "High Cap magazines" and a "Picatinny Rail running the length of the frame" then God bless. I'm not.

Saw a press release on my local range's "news" board, god knows when "soon" is or whether these guys are actually building the gun, but they'd be happy to let you preorder one :)

Yep.
There is a very good reason they don't make gun frames from carbon fiber,,,

Sounds like a load of crap they are pitching at the .gov/.mil to elicit funding ventures.

You sure that wasn't a joke?

KUHL sounds like "COOL" in netspeak.

Don't think I have EVER seen a centerfire handgun with an aluminum slide, 9mm or otherwise.

I think redesigning the 1911 with modern mechanisms is well past due and I congratulate anyone with enough gumption to do so.

However, if anyone has worked with 'naked carbon fiber' for any length of time they'll likely say this sounds like a terrible idea for usage on anything near a combustion process located near human flesh. One round that is over-pressured enough to break the frame would cause the frame to experience brittle fracture at the speed of sound and send thousands of tiny carbon fiber particles into the shooters hand. By the way, these particles/fragments are so sharp that you can not even feel them enter your skin. The tell-tale sign you've been carbon-fibered is the blood from the entrance wounds.

Just my 2 cents. I would stick to a polymer frame which is safer and helps absorb recoil better than a rigid carbon fiber frame would. I (speaking for myself) would never buy a firearm with a carbon fiber frame.

Great, can you provide their contact information? If not, can you give me the number of the local range and I'll ask them to read it off the board.

Thanks!

Sounds like another solution looking for a problem.

Ditto

Then it's no longer a 1911.

The only 1911 I would actually get that differs from the the original design is a Hi Cap model like the one that SIG will be releasing.

Hey Moderators!

Just called their preorder # and got nothing, please close this thread and delete it if possible. I don't want to advertise any products these guys make, that is if there not scamming people, which is quite possible.

Can you post that preorder number or at least PM me the information. I'd really like to find out more about this. It's sounds very intriguing. If that number doesn't work, please send me the information for the range and I'll ask if they know how to contact the people who posted it.

I'd prefer not to lock or delete this thread as a number of people seemed to find this project interesting.

will soon officially announce its new project,

Why even post about vapor and especially about vaporware that doesn't even make sense?

Carbon fiber slide stop/release? Yeah, that's not gonna last 2 long.

Post the telephone number so we can call them so everyone doesn't think you were trolling.

I love my SR 1911 the best along with my 2 old Colts that were built in 1913 and 1925

Well, that makes sense. It is Sunday and I suspect a small shop like that is probably closed on Sunday. If you send over the information, I'll give them a ring tomorrow.
