My new project involves fitting conversion parts to an 1851 Pietta Colt Navy in .36 bore. Currently, the only other revolver I have is an H&R .38 S&W Victor, and I would like to have the ability to share ammo between the two even if it means reaming the 1851 chambers to avoid any mix-ups at the range. After exploring ammo dilemmas, here is what remains to my proposed solutions:
1. Unable to find .357 - .362 hollow base conicals. I don't want wadcutters. The only company I know that makes HBFP's in that range is Ten-X, and only in loaded form.
2. Will .38 muzzleloader sabots work with a subcaliber round? I know the common ones are .35 or so, but is there a way to mod them to grip the grooves?
3. Any advice on using Autocomp powder? I have never used it before.
I'd love to load up some .375 heeled bullets in .38 S&W, but don't want to get my hand or H&R damaged if I goof up.
