Tuner my Wife came through for me for Christmas. She gave me 2 Caspian Extractors, 2 Ed Brown Firing pins for the Springer and a EGW firing pin stop. The extractors are spares. What all do in need to do, to prep them for use.

Howdy Mr. Colt,

You may not need to do anything to the extractors. Put a little bend in'em and see how they do. Never used a Caspian extractor, so I don't know if they've been pre-prepped. You may want to put a light radius on the bottom corner of the hook and just break the top corner. Put a bevel on the lower edge where the rim cams in. Not too much. Just enough to give the rim a little help.

If you get good tension and the case still won't stay put on the slide, you may need to reduce the front pad...the one just behind the hook...to get the hook closer to the breechface centerline.

Make sure that the front of the hook isn't touching the forward angle of the case extractor groove when the case is flat against the breechface, and that the tip of the hook isn't bottoming out in the extractor groove.

The EGW stop will need to be fitted, and how much depends on the slot dimensions. For the bottom, cut a light bevel across the corner and swipe it across a smooth mill file to start the radius. Fnish it up on a medium India stone or equivalent. Keep it straight across. If you're not sure of holding the radius, just the bevel will do. Cut the sides on a file by pulling the edges along the file instead of trying to hold the stop and filing on it. You'll do better if the file is on a tabletop and drawing the stop lengthwise across it. The file only cuts one way. Resist the urge to double-stroke. Fit to the bare slide first, then fit with the extractor in place.

Cut both sides evenly to fit to the slide, and off the right side only when you fit it to the extractor. If the stop is too thick, reduce it by drawing the forward side along the file, and use a countersink or tapered stone to chamfer the hole when you're finished.
