Hey All! Anyone here load Extreme or Berry’s plated bullets in 44 caliber? My supply of Rainier bullets is plum out and I can’t find any photos of what either of these bullets actually look like. Sure would love to see what I’m getting before I order it...

If anyone here has some of these and can post a photo I sure would appreciate it..

Thanks!

Extreme has been my preference for 9, 38 and 223. They are as shiny as their online photos. Sorry don't have any pictures. Been shooting the 38 wadcutters recently and good fun. 161085728061677604789.jpg

Another no experience with 44 but I have used both Berry's and Xtreme in 100gr 380, 115/124gr .356" RN, FP and Hollow base, along with 185/200/230gr RN, FP, HB .452"

Over the past few years I have used enough of all of these that I have mostly switched all over to either Accurate or Ramshot powders just because of the fact that they provide the most comprehensive load data for plated bullets. I have found I can substitute the Xtreme bullets for the Berry's bullets of the same size and weight w/o any sizable effect.

I've shot 240gr RNFP xtreme bullets out of a pistol with them loaded to 44 special levels .They did just fine and were accurate also. Used a New Model Super Blackhawk ,7.50 inch barrel and a Taurus 44 ,6.50 inch barrel. Both are 44 Magnums but both performed well with this loaded to 44 special levels . My best results were with 4.5grs. of Accurate No.2 in 44 special brass and a very light crimp, Winchester large pistol primers. Winchester - Western brass that had been reloaded 5 times in the Taurus. Tried a load with 7.5 grs. of IMR -4756 the bullet didn't seem to like it. Shot low left for me. In both guns. Maybe some other combo will be better. I'm still experimenting.

I’m all for diversity.
But, OP asked a specific question about plated, not FMJ.
Me too, & have replaced all lead with coated lead, and some plated/jacketed with coated.

I have shot plenty of Raniers in the past, but couldn't find a pic.

There are already pictures up, I just loaded some 240gr Plated Xtreme bullets yesterday for my 44mag, 11.0gr BE-86. I use a tapered crimp die to crimp them.

When I can find FMJ for same or better price, I shoot them too. I’m all for diversity.

I feel you, but for me it really depends. I carry FMJ in my .40 STI when I’m fly fishing in the woods, we have some crazy animals in WA. But I shoot plated or frang when shooting matches. Copper bouncing back on your face gets old fast.

XTreme and Berrys are good to go as far as my experience with them. I like how XTreme has an "in stock now" button on their website and you don't have to search high and low for what's available.

Yeah I watch the news and saw some of those animals this past summer. Now that you mention it, I have had factory ammo w/jacketed bullets separate and give a nice scatter shot on paper targets. But have never had a plated bullets do anything similar. You must be referring to bounce back from steel targets?

I load +P+ .40 FMJ for crazy stalking animals like Cougar and mountain lions. Then there are Ram sheep's that won’t back down, black bears that are scared of their own shadow.

Berrys 240gr. 44 Cal on left, X-Treme 200gr. 44 Cal on right. Don't have a pic of the 240gr X-Treme.

I have used both Extreme and Berry's plated bullets in 41 and 44 magnums and 45 Colt. I have been able to find good loads with all three, but in general, coated cast bullets are easier to find good loads for and overall more accurate. The velocity sweet spot for the plated bullets seems to be around 950 - 975 fps in the three cartridges listed above.

I've ran plenty of 240g Berry's in 44 magnum and 45 Colt. They're...ok. Maybe I need to do some more toying with them, but they don't provide the best accuracy for me in either round. They shoot clean, so there's that.
