I have a singleshot H&R with a extra long barrel. I want to cut the barrel a little shorter, I'm thinking around 26inches but it means I'll lose my choke. Our local dealer only keep Fabarm choke tubes, meaning a round trip of 500km(310miles).

Does anybody know what the thread-sizes on Fabarm tubes are since I would like to see if I can cut the thread on my lathe. I do engineering for a living and can cut both Imperial and Metric threads(inner&outer threads).

I would like to be able to shoot both slugs and lead-shot with the same rifle. If it means that I must remove the choke tube out before shooting slugs - no problem. I'm casting the Lee 1oz slugs, hollow based with the slot in.

The slugs will be for pigs and shot on the feathered friends.

Any advice will be welcomed

email fabarms and ask them what the thread size is? Mike Orlen is a trusted barrel man and can install choke tubes rather quickly and reasonably. check out shotgun world forum gunsmithing sub forum. there are alignment problems with installing choke tubes, one can install the tube crooked.

Barrels are prepared for choke tubes by using piloted reamers and taps. I don't know of a company that makes the tooling to install Fabarm tubes. The standard after market tube prep tooling is for Winchoke, Remchoke, and Truchoke. All of these tubes can be obtained from Brownells and Midway for reasonable prices. I will PM you concerning prepping your barrel for tubes.

I contacted Fabarm but their response was the choke tubes will only fit on their guns. Guess I will have to pay a decent gunsmith a visit and discuss the whole idea first. Sounds like the idea could get costly.
Thank you in any case for the advice but all will depend on what tubes I can find locally in South Africa.
