Fabricade Arms - La Coruna 1954 Questions...

First off, this is a gun that a friend gave me since he was moving to California. Now the question is...What is it...?

I know nothing about old guns, especially foreign Military Surplus, which is what I think this is. Is this a good Gun, Has anyone ever seen it before? and most importantly...what does it shoot...? There are no markings on the barrel, at all, that would indicate bore size.

Any help is appreciated...Thank you in advance...

It appears to be a M43 Spanish Mauser. It is likely an 7.92 (8mm Mauser) caliber. It may have the caliber stamp under the upper handguard.
Some were converted to 7.62x51 NATO round and reworked to the FR-8 Spanish Mauser.

It may have an import marking near the muzzle on the barrel.

Bad news...no markings

Good news is that through trial and error, the 7.92 (8mm Mauser) fits in the chamber and a micrometer confirming that means that it's a fit...

now the question is, is it safe to shoot..? Everything that I've read says to use old ammo, and that there are some that can handle the new stuff, but how do I tell if this is one of these?

Your rifle appears to be in nice shape, and it is a M98 Mauser with the extra rear locking lug. It was patterned after the German K98K.
Factory ammo from Remington, Winchester are loaded down to work in any 8MM Mauser and your rifle should be fine with it. Prvi-Partizan is quite a bit cheaper, and it too is good stuff. Those factory loads also use boxer primed brass, so they can be reloaded.
All surplus 8MM is corrosive, so if you use it, clean with hot water first and follow up with a normal solvent cleaner.
To be on the safe side, you can have the headspace checked by a gunsmith, or by someone who knows how.

It was more of a trade...for some money he owed me...he wanted to lighten his load...I'm always to happy to get more guns...esp if they're cheap (only owed me like 100...)

Hes been a friend for years...since we were kids...the gun looks to be in decent condition...he never fired it, said he got it from his dad (along with 8 or so other rifles...wouldnt let me get my hands on the Garand) Looked cool and I don't have anything old, so I took it...Worst case...I'm going to polish it up and put it in a display case...

Plus, for some reason, im not sure if it was legal in Cali...i hear they are run by the Govenator and he doesn't like to see people defend themselves from apocalyptic robots...
