I have a synthetic stocked Remington 700 ADL in 30-06 for hunting. The factory synthetic is the cheap, hollow style plastic stock.

Would a H-S Precision Pro Series with aluminum bedding make any significant difference in the way the rifle shoots? I know it is nicer. But, does it make that much of a difference to justify investing the money?

Also, they claim it is a drop in stock. Does it really drop in? Or, will I need a gunsmith to fit it?

Thanks,
Dave

they are good stocks - better than factory. and they are close to drop-in, meaning that it will either bolt right up, or you will have some minor no-gunsmith-required clearancing (floated barrel).
however... the bedding block is not required, which means the stock is heavy. for the money, there are other options available.
look into a bansner hi-tech stock. every bit as good, but a full 20 ounces lighter than factory (hs and factory stocks weigh about the same). or, mcmillan. about 8-10 ounces lighter, but is about the best stock on the market right now. more expensive than hs, though.

basically, i would pass on the hs stocks. they are good, not great, and don't offer enough overall improvement over factory to warrant the price. look into brown precision/bansner/mcmillan. or... if you want real good for cheap, find a 700 ti takeoff. they run about $150 for new condition. you will have to clearance the barrel channel, but they are probably the best buy in remington stocks right now. fairly inexpensive, very stiff, and quite light. the lvsf stock is the same thing, except has a wider forearm...

How about wood?

Is there somewhere I could get a wooden stock? I've got the same cursed hollow synthetic and I am a big fan of wood stocks.

laminate or 1-piece?

for laminates: check out accurate innovations, richards microfit, and boyds.

there are a billion suppliers for wood, just depends on what grade of wood you like, and how much work you want to do yourself, etc.
