I have an older Remington 700 ADL Synthetic in .30-06 Government. I say "older" because it predates the current models with the integral lock. My rifle does not have that lock (and I am very happy at that).

I bought the gun to build into a precision rifle. My thinking was, if I'm gonna throw out everything but the receiver and (maybe) the trigger group, no point in spending big bux on the 700 BDL DM model. In retrospect, I think I would have liked the detachable mag feature but no going back now.

I see that most of the aftermarket stocks, etc. are listed as available for the 700 BDL. Not many (if at all) for the ADL.

[Edit: there certainly are a good number of aftermarket accessories for the 700 ADL, it's just that none of them tickle my fancy like some of the ones available for the BDL.]

My question is: if I'm not going to be using anything except the receiver (and maybe the bolt and trigger group), is there any difference that would prevent me from using aftermarket accessories for a 700 BDL?

Thanks,

Justin

The accessories will be pretty much identical, except for a stock.
Unless the stock is specifically for an ADL, it'll have the magazine opening in the bottom for the BDL floorplate or the DM bottom metal/mag.

What may differ is some short /long action parts/accesories.

You can simply order the DM parts by cartridge from Remington, since you mentioned that that's what you'd rather have, and bolt them in.
I once converted an ADL to the BDL hinged floorplate, etc, that way - but with a wood stocked ADL - after opening up the closed bottom area of the magazine well.

Thanks, I did not know that kits were available to convert an ADL to a DM model.

I'd really like to put a McMillan M40 style stock on my 700 ADL but if it's not possible I may go with one of the McMillan A-4s, which are available for the 700 ADL.

Oversized stocks by " Hogue "

are great rubberized stocks. They have glass bedded models which give your rifle a floating barrel. Do a " Froogle" search for your rifle. You may find this stock for maybe $99 to $150 .

the new ones don't have the lock, either - remington did away w/ those in 2006.

the adl has a stronger aftermarket than the bdl does for many things, and a detacheable mag on a bolt gun that will heat the barrel after just a couple shots is not practical. better to have the stability the adl-style offers.

here's what'cha do... call mcmillan and get your stock. then, call the barrel maker of your choice (lilja is a good choice) and get your barrel. then call sinclair international and pick up your jewell trigger.

go ahead and have your 'smith do the barrel install, then get your rifle home and install the trigger, pillar and bed your rifle (do the scope bases you got from badger, too, as long as you're bedding), and you're about done...

AFAIK, There are no such "kits" available.

You have to purchase the individual appropriate parts needed for the conversion, from the gun's parts listing, and do what you have to do, to install them.

Some are E-Z, some are not so E-Z, and, somedays, you get the bear! ;)
