I am submitting this here since the ammo section doesn't seem to deal with factory ammo; I just got a Ruger P-95 for home defense and range; there is an independent shop near my folks that has older 50 round boxes of 124 grain 9mm Federal Premium Hydrashock for @$16...seem like a good deal...

cautiously I have to ask this: Was or is there a problem with older Federal Premium 124 grain Hydrashocks (non +p)? :scrutiny:

Nothing wrong with any of the Federal Hydrashock 9mm ammo. What you are seeing is most likley police contract over run ammo rather than ammo that's sat on the shelf for very long. Federal boxes the Hydrashock ammo to police dept's in 50 round boxes. Occasionally they have factory over runs or contract cancelations so they sell the ammo to public disributors at reasonable cost. Look at the boxes and see if they're not marked for police use. "Police only" markings on ammo boxes is there for the company to identify their productions produced for police dept's and not a legal or obligatory restriction on the ammo.

I would jump on that deal right away. Hydra-Shok ammo is good stuff and box of 50 for $16 is not a bad deal. My PD carried the 124 grain Hydra-Shok until we switched to the Federal Tactical 124 grain round. The main reason was that the Tactical round is a bonded round which would benefit the officers in case they had to shoot through a car windshield for example. If you are not using the ammo for a similar purpose, the bonded round is not really needed.

I've carried the 124 gr Hydroshock in my old P85 for years. 50 rds for 16 bucks is a heckuva good price. Buy it while it's still there!!
