got a new Ruger #1Varminter .22-250, bore sightd and shot in with core lokts 55 grain, after 12 rounds got a nickle group and a 1" group, today shot 2 rounds of Hornady Vmax 55 gr. and they were both 6"high and the core lokts were still dead on, gun dealer swears Winchester 55 gr. are the #1 favorite load. any input would be appreciated.would also like to know about heavier 60-64 gr. in the 1:14 twist barrel. happy with the Remington but know other ammo might do better since I dont reload. thanks, f c

Your twist rate will work great with bullets from 40 grain to 55 grain but marginal at best with 60 grain and probably very bad with anything heavier. I imagine the Hornady and Winchester ballistic tip bullets will be more accurate than the core lokt bullets, but a nickle group with them is very good. I handload 50, 52, and 55gr. bullets for my Ruger MK77II and do very well. I have used Nosler 60gr. partions as the heaviest bullets with about 1.5-2 inch groups. If you have more of the Hornady ammo, shoot a group and the adjust your scope if you like it better.

In my M70 .22-250 with the same twist rate it loves the Remington Premier 50gr V-Max. It also likes the winchester white box 45 grain HP rounds, the groups are a bit bigger but not by much.

All the 60gr rounds I have tried shotgun pattern at 100 yards.

Hornady Varmint 50gr V-max .22-250 factory ammo is ~$20/box and worked great in my dad's 700 VLS. So great, we copied it with Varget powder and Nosler brass.
