Factory "ruger only" 45 colt loads for blackhawk

Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can buy (relatively inexpensive) good high power factory loads for a ruger 45 Colt (Long Colt) Blackhawk? Since these are pretty pricey rounds every little bit of savings count.

I know Buffalo Bore has them on there website for about $35 per 20 rd box.

Also what are some good brands other than Buffalo Bore and Car Bon?

These will not be for hunting just some plinking with a kick

Jed, If there are Ruger only rounds at a cheaper price, I am not aware of them. Ever thought of gettting into reloading? 45 colt brass lasts a long time and reloaded rounds come out to about $12 for 50 rounds (loaded heavy).

Georgia Arms

Georgia Arms makes a round called the "Deerstopper".
I think it's 260gr going at 1200fps(going from memory here)and I have shot it in my Blackhawk.It will definitely get your attention
It's cheaper than Buffalo Bore and comes in packs of 50 and 100.

Here is what I said.

Buffalo Bore and Cor-Bon are about it for high quality +P & +P+ .45 Colt hunting ammo.

Your best bet for cheap .45 Colt ammo like that is to get into reloading.

You can set up with a pretty decent reloading set-up for about what 150 rounds of Cor-Bon costs.

I know for a fact I could not afford to feed all my centerfire handguns if I didn't handload for them all.

I have started to do a little reloading and and trying to learn all I can. I don't feel like I am experienced enough to be making up some "hot loads" just yet. I would love to, but I want to play it safe, but I would like to see how my blackhawk performs with them.

Yeah I aksed this question on a few boards I frequent. Like to get a lot of opinions

+P "Ruger only" loads are not "hot loads" if you follow only published reloading data for them, start at the suggested start load and work up, and only shoot them in a Ruger or other strong gun.

You can actually blow up a gun far easier with the fast burning pistol powder most folks start out reloading with then with the slower magnum level powders.

Not enough room in the case to double-charge one for instance.

RC what Kel Tec do you own? was wondering how you liked it. (not to hijack my own thread).

I recently got a PF9 and haven't really got into it a lot, so the jury is sill out.

Cast your own bullets and save even more! I cast light loads from range scrap, but do load my hot stuff with Hornady XTP 300 grain bullets to avoid leading. I could get a gas check design, but hell, I don't shoot the hot loads that much. My standard load is 8.3 grains Unique behind a 255 Lee flat nose. That one loaps along at about 950 from my 4 5/8" barrel and is quite accurate. My hot load involves 2400 and pushs that 300 grain pill to 1120 fps. Now, I could get more out of it, but that's hot enough for hogs and deer.

Oh, BTW, my P11 is a great little carry, been shooting and carrying it for 15 years now. Well over 10K rounds down the tube with no problems.

Just get a Hodgdon manual and follow the recipes.

I would actually sooner suggest a beginning reloader work up heavy loads for a Ruger .45Colt than standard loads for a .40S&W.

At that price, you could pay for a Lee hand press kit in less than 4 boxes!!
