Re: "Shooting to wound" (STW)
1) STW can be used as evidence that in your own mind lethal force was not justified in the circumstance, and your state of mind is an important legal consideration in a defensive shooting.
2) STW requires better marksmanship than a COM shot, hence less chance to prevail under dire circumstances. More chance to miss also means more danger to innocent parties. Even if successful it is less likely to be a stopping shot.
3) STW doesn't mean the shootee won't die of being shot. A shot in the leg can easily rupture the femoral artery causing death by exanguination.
4) Any defensive shooting instructor will tell you that warning shots and STW are never an option.
5) If lethal force is justified, any consideration for the well being of the assailant indicates abominable judgement.
It's never a good idea.

Please explain exactly what this means.

Retribution and/or Retaliation... (by the BG, not the GG)

Expect it. Should one ever be forced to deal with a sociopath or a group of them successfully, do any forum members here really think that their thought process will be, "Oh darnit anyway. The good guy won that round, Live and learn I always say."?

Hardly. Read Mark MacYoungs essays on "Criminal Mindset".
http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/

How dare you cause him to lose face. It's your fault, never his.

BTDT. That's the reason I got my CCW. My small business got hit... Office burglary. BG caught. Already paroled for "Armed Robbery" in CA, he moved to LV to live with his Mommy. Got back into his lifestyle. Imprisoned for 5 - 7, he was paroled out in 33 months.
And yes, he actually came to my now relocated office, let me know he was out and was back in town, looked around the office and said "Nice stuff." He was gone by the time the police arrived and I'm sure he had a nice laugh with his buddies about it.

Face. An interesting concept.

It's what I love about KS; not only am I under no obligation to retreat, I also have no obligation to meet force with like force.

I hope that I am lucky enough to never be "burgled" because while I comfortably slept with my 1911 on my nightstand, my worthless dog would most likely lick the perpetrator to death and try to get him to play while they cleaned out my house. If the bandit was of the feline variety... well that is a whole different ball game.:D

Retaliation by the threat or threats friends is a reality in any "good" shoot. In my mind it should be at a similer level of deterence to me that I may have big lawyer fees to defend me in court. I should never shoot unless I really fear for my life or the life of a family member. So if I really fear I shoot to stop the threat, but know the may ramifications may follow a long time.
