Hey. well I went out shooting yesterday and I had a few problems with the shot gun. I was using 6 year old ammo in a Maverick 88. The rem buck shot worked fine as did the federal target loads, but I was using this Rot something slugs, I cant remember the name and every time I would fire, the action would lock up. I would have to go to the road and smack the butt stock on the ground to eject the shell. Any reason why this would happen?

First, look at the fired cases and see if there's any signs of damage or high pressure. Use one of the other make cases as a control.

Signs of high pressure include flattened primers, ragged crimps, split casings, and so on.

Also look to see if the ammo's appropriate to the gun. If the slug's 3", make sure your shotgun has a 3" chamber and is so marked on the barrel.

And, I'd get a smith to look the thing over.

HTH...
