FAL Carbine to shoot in DFW?

Anybody know of a range that rents a FAL carbine in the DFW area? If not, do we have any members in the DFW area with a FAL carbine who would like to meet for a shoot?

I am entertaining the idea of buying another semi-auto .308, and would very much like the chance of handling and shooting the carbine-length FAL rifle.

Basically, I have four rifles on my list of "wants," and am trying to decide between them: FAL carbine, Super VEPR, Cetme, and M1A Scout. They are unique and special in their own ways, but if I could only get one (for right now), which to get? Weight, length, accuracy, reliability, sights, cost, etc., are all variables in the equation. So far, the FAL carbine is winning, but I want to actually shoot one before I shell-out the money!

If none of these can beat my current rifle, standard VEPR .308, then I'll put the money into that rifle (Krebs M1A mag conversion, Krebs AR sight conversion, etc...)

Targetmaster in Garland MAY have one, I shot an M96 there once, so an FAL wouldnt suprise me.

You should put your money into the VEPR...you arent going to get much better than that without spending lots of $$$. But if you really want another 308, have you looked at www.ohiorapidfire.com?? Their stuff is priced good and praised on by lots of people. I got a PTR91(G3 copy) from CDNN for $700 and it works well, and 20rd mags are $4.

Ask the same question over on www.falfiles.com - I know there are several TX FALers around who get together and shoot from time to time. I'd be surprised if there wasn't somebody close to you who'd be happy to "indoctrinate" you into the ways of the FAL!

As you might have guessed, I'm partial to the FAL. The ergonomics are superior to any gun I've found, except for the rock 'n' lock magazine, which can be learned without too much difficulty. I think the M1A has it beat in terms of a target gun (better bolt lock up), but if you examine a rack grade version of each you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference in shooting ability, and you can build a FAL for as little as a third of what the M1A will cost you (not to mention magazine price).

I only have experience with the FAL, CETME/G3 and M1A. Never shot a VEPR.

My ranking of the 3 I know is 1) FAL, 2) M1A, 3) CETME/G3. My brief experience with an AK would make me put it #3 ahead of the G3.

FAL is superior (IMO) because of ergonomics, ruggedness, accuracy, power, maintenance. M1A is better from a sights and trigger perspective but loses or is parity on the other areas. CETME/G3 has poorer ergo and maintenance issues.

Between the CETME and G3 I'd vote G3 because of parts availability and general condition of samples in the market (only go CETME for the history / price of one.).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Targetmaster in Garland has a FAL for rental. I recall seeing at least one there when I was by a few months ago. I don't go to Garland much.

Fals at targetmaster.

I looked at the Targetmaster FALS last week. One is a Hesse Fal and the other is a Century on an Imbel reciver. These may not be the best example's of a fal out there. both century and hessy are known for their questionalble quality. The Century might be ok since is not their reciver

I thought the FAL Carbine I shot was better than any assault rifle or battle rifle I've ever fired. If it was chambered in 7.62x39 it would be a better rifle than the AK.

I checked with Target Masters, and they only have the full-length FAL, not the carbine.

Any FAL'ers out there with a carbine in the DFW area?
