Had I not forgotten about the coolness of the PTR/HK-91 (shot One, about 12 years ago),

but randomly/ quite unexpectedly Spotted a PTR at the February gun show, the FAL bug could then have bitten.

I shot a new Argy irons off the bench, just w elbows, and could cover the group at 200 with palm of hand.
5 shots. Did that back to back too.
My elbows were raw after that so I quit.
Pops sold that rifle. Best shooter he had, or had seen.

Fun is rapid in .308. DSA A2 sight helps for close and speedy.

Equally worthless as any other rifle in that caliber on FA. Lots of noise, difficult to control. The Israelis made a version with a heavy barrel and bipod that I heard works decent for FA, but like every other FAL, it is handicapped by not being belt fed, firing from a closed bolt, and not having a quick change barrel. Those are the types of weapons FA works with.

I've had the opportunity to fire quite a number of full auto equipped "battle rifle" caliber firearms in and out of the service. For me, the most controllable that wasn't a crew served weapon was a full auto Browning BAR on slow fire.

I am a little late to the party but I recommend an STG58 or like model made by DSA on an LMT receiver. You can tell because the LMT serial number is DS##### instead of DSA#####. These are some of the best receivers made for FAL's, some say better than some originals. You can find them on gunbroker and expect to pay about $2000. I have a M1A, AR-10 and have just in the past several years gotten into the FAL's. I prefer shooting them for fun better than the M1A or AR-10. I happened to lay into some serious 308 stock about three years before the pandemic. The M1A and AR-10 are target rifles, the FAL is a bare bones battle rifle.
