The length of pull for the FAL rifle is about 14.25". This, as I understand it, is actually pretty long, longer than the M16A2 and MUCH longer than the AK-47 with the Warsaw-Pact length buttstock. (Though I believe the M4 stock, all the way out, is this length.)
I'm a tall dude, so I don't notice it (though oddly, other guns with that LOP feel too long). I asked around at the FAL Files if anyone thought the LOP felt too long. They're FAL guys, so no, they thought it was fine. Some said it was too short (!!).
How about you guys? I've read plenty of reviews of FAL rifles in the magazines, and none mentioned the long LOP. There isn't much that can be done in any case; in the fixed stock FAL, the buffer tube goes almost all the way to the buttplate. Shortening the stock significantly would mean a redesigned lower with a shorter tube and a different return spring (though this would make an interesting project).
Of course, a para stock could be made shorter, but no one seems to be clamoring for this.
What say you, THR FAL shooters. Anybody wishing for a shorter FAL stock? Anybody try firing it with heavy clothing or body armor?
