So I picked up a couple of FAL mags from the same guy that I've gotten from in the past at the gun show. I asked which box were the metric mags and grabbed two off of the top of the pile.

When I got home and tried them out in the STG58....yep, you guessed it.....they didn't fit.

The 'good' mags that fit have the locking lug stamped into the mag, while these new 'bad' mags have lugs that are welded/brazed onto the mags.

Presumably these are inch pattern mags, no?

Wish I had taken a better look at the mags I already had before I went....but, that's what I get for trusting signs on a box at a gun show, huh?

So....anyone looking for a deal on a couple of inch pattern mags? :p

anapex,

I'll let you have the two mags for what I paid for them....$7.50 each. Should be a little cheaper than the usual cost of inch mags. I'd rather sell them to you since there would be no postage involved.

Let me know.

Next time I'll pay attention to what I'm picking up ;)

Well, if you are looking for an excuse to get one of those new .308 Bushmasters you have it now. They are supposed to take both inch and metric mags. Tapco used to have a bunch of metric mags available, but I did not see them the last time I was there. Check out http://www.cdnninvestments.com, they have metric mags listed.

hmmmm, $7.00 with a loader for the used mags....not a bad deal...may have to order a few of those.

One place advertising in Shotgun News (I want to say it's InterOrdnance but not sure) is offering FAL mags from Europe dated in the 1960s and 1970s that are used but in great condition for $1.95 each. I bought 10 and it was about $6 shipping. Of the 10 mags 8 looked unused and two were about 90%.

Seems like most inch mags are more expensive than metrics, it shouldnt be a problem trading with sombody.
DSA has good metric mags for $5 each.
