"fallout" computer game series

Only cRPG I ever beat was KOTOR (1). Had me addicted for about a week or two back in HS until I beat it.

And I thought all that THR played was 5-year-old bargain-bin FPS games.

Fallout 1 and 2 was the best $10 I ever spent. I lost one of the discs but if it was still available I'd pay for it a second time.

It had something small to do with my interest in firearms.

Fallout was one of the all-time great computer RPGs. Fallout II took it even further by adding tons and tons of extra content, much of which people are still newly discovering to this day, but some of Fallout II actually did what I feel was ruining a classic. At times, Fallout II seemed almost like a Mel Brooks parody of the original because of all of the pop-culture referenses and jokes. Both, however, were quite spectacular.

The firearms in Fallout were a little cheesy, if you ask me. The most common handgun was a 12-shot "Colt 6520" 10mm pistol with a revolving cylinder on the back, while the second most common was a Desert Eagle. The most powerful handgun in the game was clearly meant to look like the blaster from Blade Runner and was described as a handgun made from a .223 rifle, and it somehow did more damage per shot than a .223 rifle. And for some reason there was also a Broomhandle Mauser in there too.
They just seemed a little too sci-fi and not enough post-apoc, if you ask me.

I played fallout 1, 2, and tactics. Fallout one was my favorite RPG (yes I played KOTOR and baldur's gate II). Fallout 2 was goo except the origional release was crazy buggy. I stopped playing video games a while ago but I'd play fallout 3.

That seems quite a common feature in computer games.

Halo became a lot easier when I realised that the pistol was more powerful, longer ranged, and more accurate than the assault rifle.

And in Deus Ex, where the weapon stats were given in game, was something like:
10mm Handgun: 10 damage
7.62x51mm Assault Rifle: 3 damage
30-06 sniper rifle: 25 damage

I only played the first Fallout, but enjoyed it. Couldn't get enthusiastic about the others, though.

I've played all the great PC RPGS's. Fallout series will always have a place in my heart. Great Vibe. Maybe its time to replay. I love at the bginning of Fallout II when "A Kiss to Build a Dream on" plays over old safety clips.

Fallout? Ok for a few hours of entertainment, got bored with it quick. Best RPG ever? I guess some people have never played Morrowind or Baldurs Gate or a host of other really good cRPGs.
Played all of those plus many others. Still think Planescape: Torment is the all time best with Fallout running a middlin' close 2nd.

After you get married you can pimp out your spouse in Reno.

I removed her brain at Sierra Army Depot, then told her dad, who promply died of a heart attack, and left her brain next to his body.

Anyone else seriously crave a Gauss Rifle?

F1 was a ton of fun, can't find F2 anywhere, though, have a neutered copy of it and have desired a full version for years. Man, I'd love that Gauss rifle, or Bozaar, or G11! The armourer in New Reno had a M60, but the 7.62 ammo wasn't that plenty, though.

Half-Life was that way too. The Glock did more damage per shot than the MP-5. The .357 revolver was disproportionately powerful to the point of overkill(no pun intended), the game "compensated" by allowing you to carry only 36 rounds for it.

Anybody remember the old TSR book-and-dice game Gamma World? Sort of like D&D, but set in the future.

They fixed that in Halo 2; the H2 pistol is pretty weak.

The rifle in H2 has a magnified optic and 3-shot burst, but I wish you could switch it to semiauto.

BTW, did you know the sniper rifle in Halo is modeled after a real gun?

Mechem NWT-20 in 14.5mm. The real thing is a bolt-action with the mag on the left side, but in Halo it's a semiauto and feeds from the bottom. Also available in 20mm.
