FART vs HF tumbler?

Have the Frankford tumbler going on 5 years with no problems. Just saw on Midway that they are releasing a "lite" version for about 110.

Highly recommend the magnets with a release handle like the Frankford or I got mine at a local Grainger Supply. They are small enough to go inside the fart and release, the handle keeps it from going completely inside the drum. I use it for smelting wheel weights to detect steel weights.
Thanks for the heads-up on the new 110 version - I will buy one of these!!

I've had the full size FART for 4 years or so & nary a problem. I've been looking to buy a 2nd unit so I can keep one with pins & one without pins ready to go. The extra-drum alone is expensive so I had resigned myself to catch another whole unit on sale. This 110 looks like an even better option!

I can't recommend the original FART enough. Don't mess around with other tumblers - this just works!

I just looked at the "Lite" version of the fart: no built in timer, no pins included, no separator end cap inserts, smaller drum.
Not what I consider a bargain, I'd pass if in the market.
The "Platinum" comes with 5# of FA pins that cost $26/2#, that's $65 for pins, but you'll need less in the "Lite".
That said, I'd buy that smaller drum for my "Platinum" fart if it would work though!
I love these old threads dragged up from the archives :uhoh:
:D

I slightly agree that with the price of pins one could just buy the bigger version. I will keep an eye on amazon and as soon as it goes down to $125 ill grab the larger version and pay about $50 for it.

Is it really all that difficult to use the products name instead of acronyms all the time? I figured out what HF is but I guess I'm stupid but I have no idea what product the FART is? It's it really all that dufficult? We are not being charged by the character.

Edit: I got it now, Frankford Arsenal rotary tumbler but still...

An excellent point ... but ... since the "FART" has been discussed, ad nauseam, in the this forum for several years, I think that it is understandable why many/most of us accept it to now be a regular part of the reloading lexicon.

A few things to note:
1. It doesn't have a built-in timer
2. It doesn't come with media
3. It doesn't come with strainer end caps
4. It is about half the capacity of it's larger brother

I have a shooting buddy who uses a HF tumble and he is able to tumble about 200 .45ACP cases at a time

So after much thought about how much I actually shoot and the IMO outrageous price of the FART $175. I chose to go with the HF duel rock tumbler for $42 and a bag of pins I'll be getting for free. I watched countless Youtube videos and forums threads regarding the HF tumbler and also a nice comparison of the HF vs FART and the HF didn't have that much difference other than capacity which I don't mind. I am getting the pins this week and will let everyone know how it goes by next Sunday.

Yep, you will love wet tumbling for sure. I know I wish I had MORE capacity rather than less however (I have the full-sized FART), and tend to do multiple loads at a time. You know how much you shoot, so if you have the capacity you need, you just saved a ton of money.

Congratulations!

Cool,
I think you will be happy with wet tumbling.
Nice clean brass may not make ammo that shoots any better but clean brass makes me :)
Thanks! Main reason I am doing it is because I want to be a little cleaner. When i resize my rifle brass with wax I notice my fingers turn black. I change the media, wet it, wax it and still black fingers. I tried rubber gloves but don't like using them. Now that load development is done for pistol and rifle I maybe shoot 100-200 9mm a month and 50 223 rem a month. I can have that tumbled in a few hours. I also have about 1k 9mm cases and 1k 223 cases in reserve so no hurry to get it done.

Something else to consider then - Cabela's just put it on sale for $99.97 with Free shipping but it is on backorder.
I don't care how long it takes - this will be worth it. I've backordered with Cabela's before, they will send an email as it becomes ready and ask if you still want it and not bill you until it ships.
Always wanted one and just pulled the trigger on it. Maybe this will rival your Amazon wishes.

So, I figured out I could use the rewards cash to pay off the balance of the card, so after much thought I had someone pickup the FART locally at $99 and used my $75 cash back and paid on the card.

Please let us know how you like it.

I guess the bad thing is you can no longer say your FARTless:D

I have the Lyman Cyclone and I didn't get one for a while because I thought can it really be that much better than dry tumbling?
The answer is yes IMO.

I’m grabbing it Friday from my buddy and testing it Saturday. I have lots of range brass:)
