Faux "No Firearms Permitted" Signs

Mentioned this in another thread but thought I should pass along the word.

Last week I noted a new (and pretty official looking) "No firearms permitted" sign in the front door of the local Dicks. Now I thought this was really weird as they sell firearms and supplies.

Since I know several of the guys there pretty well I thought I'd ask the manager about the sign. He was shocked, had no idea the sign was there and removed it immediately. He said (and I have reason to believe him as I've known him a little while) that nobody in the store would have put one up as there is no such policy.

Last night I get a phone call from one of the salesguys (another cowboy action shooter) who told me that they found ANOTHER sign in the door again and then noticed identical signs in several of the nearby shops. When he asked the managers of the other places they knew nothing about the signs and all removed them.

Now we're suspicious that -somebody- is going around posting these faux signs (maybe as a prank or something, I don't know).
 
Don't know. It's not a strip mall exactly more like three little clusters. I have no idea if they are all owned by the same company or not but I'll mention that thought to the manager.
 
That is really odd. Even if the owner of the strip mall is anti-gun, they can't just willy-nilly put signs up in the windows stating that stores are anti-gun, unless it's something in the lease.

That is really really odd. Sounds like someone or some group is running around putting these signs up.
 
If they ever catch the person who did it, i would like to know their reasoning... for any of it really lol

fingerprinted that is :) I believe posting bills on anothers property is Vandalism.
 
This was a tactic espoused by the Brady Campaign for a while on one of the more subversive websites. False posting to anger some customers and to see which stores just left them up. And then confronting those who took the signs down. I thought it had passed, but maybe someone decided to revive a failed project.

In minnesota the signs mean nothing anyway. Only signs you really have to obey are schools and court houses.
 
My childish side always wanted to make some vinyl magnets stating "Now Entering a Victim Disarmament Zone" and place them next to any "Gun-Free Zone" signs I saw.

I suppose I'd have to find some "Gun-Free Zone" signs first.
 
Given that some people are seemingly reassured by the "no guns" signs, would you be offended by something that said "No Illegal Firearms" or something of the sort? Keeps the soccer mommies happy, along with the security mommies...

(actually thinking of making a few, and giving them to places that have posted, after explaining to them just who it drives away from their business.)
 
Here in Texas, plenty of 7-11s and some restaurants have posted signs that say something to the effect of:

The unlicensed possession of a firearm is on these premises is a felony punishable by (yada yada yada).

The key word, unlicensed, is not highlighted. But it is the critical word in the sentence.

So what good is the sign? Crooks won't care, and it doesn't apply to legal CCW folks.

The sign is an effective bug in the ear to denormalize the carriage of arms.

People see the signs, and simply accept them as part of the landscape, reinforcing the guuunnnnnss baaaaaad meme.

They are required to post this sign by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. It notifies people who are carrying without a permit that they are about to commit a felony instead of a misdemeanor.

I disagree.

The greatest weapon the anti's have had is their ability to portray gun ownership as perverse - something other than ordinary.

Every one of those signs is an announcement that there are a lot of ordinary people out there, carrying guns as a normal thing.

That pink-sweatshirted soccer mom, when she walks by a sign, may be thinking "I can't believe I live in a state with so many bozos". But even she can't pretend to herself that gun ownership is unusual.

And if she ever for a moment gives serious consideration to becoming licensed and carrying on a daily basis for protection of herself and her children... she will remember how grossly inconvenient and difficult it would be and may very well opt against the bother.
 
That's very, very odd indeed. Do you have any pictures of the stickers? We might be able to scrounge the source of the sticker graphics up online as a group.

Here are two possible reasons for this (warning: conspiracy engaged):

1) A gun grabber put them up as a political statement/vandalism. Probably the most likely.
2) A criminal, jihadist, or other terrorist put them up in an attempt to get a nice victim disarment area going so he or she could kill or rob as many people as possible with reasonable certainty that there would be marginal resistance.

(Is the area designed so that it would be easily prone to some sort of assault?)

Anyway, good eye there, tex! Glad you got the problem sorted out.

Sportman's Warehouse signs read (not verbatim here) All firearms must be checked in at customer service. Lawfully carried and properly secured concealed weapons are exempt.

Most gunshops I know of have policies against walking in with uncased and/or loaded firearms, for the simple reason that that's how accidents happen. I also know that all of the shops I frequent have zero problems with a loaded CCW or holstered sidearm.
