Maintenance time again what are you favorite recoil springs for commander and govt 1911s.

I have used a lot of Wolff in the past. Thoughts?

I've always had good luck with Wolff springs. I use 16# for Gov Models and 18# for Commanders. I normally change my Gov models every 2K rounds and Commanders every 1K. They could probably go longer but springs are reasonably cheap so why chance it, it works for me.

+1 on browningwgm's post. Wolff makes very good springs for most uses even if ISMI springs last a little longer for the high volume IPSC guys. Just find the right spring for your load and change them every couple of thousand rounds.

I have always used Wolfs in my 1911s.. Change out govt every 2500 rounds. Commanders at about 1500 rounds.

Never had issues but was looking for other suggestions. I will take a look at ISMIs.

Do you all think 2500 is a good number for basically all manufacturers of 1911 platform.

And also any of you been using the higher performance products in Taurus PT1911? Will the Wolffe springs work in it?

I see lots of numbers floated around. 1000 to 3000+.

Wolfe springs should work on any 1911.

Hey all you people that change out these springs at 1000 for commander and 2000 for Govt. Mail them to me I will use them till their really used up .. They will go double that .

I always keep a backup set of Wolf springs for my guns as far as how many rounds I go before changing them I dont keep track. I just change them when they seem like they need it or when my brass flies to far.

Wolff makes progressive springs too if thats what you want to use.

However, if Mr. Browning wanted you to use progressive springs, that is what he would have designed into it.

Conventional recoil springs are best when shooting heavier loads where keeping the slide closed as long as possible is desired.

Variable rate springs are possibly better for light target loads where you may want easier unlocking with full dampening at full slide travel..

G.I. 1911 I use G.I. Parts Excluding the barrel which I have 2 spares the frame & Slide I figure I could rebuild about 15 1911's
