Be it revolver, bottom feeder, or a single shot.
For hunting, home defense, or the range.

My favorite is probably my S&W 25-2, I just plink with it mostly but do hunt with it some, loaded with 45 supers.
I carry a PM45 as my daily carry, so I guess it's my favorite carry 45.
My favorite shooter is my P220.
My favorite for bullseye practice is a 1911 that I purpose built for back yard bench shooting.

I want a 45 carbine for a home defense gun, but there's not a lot of options out there for that. I'll probably pick up a CX4 carbine one day, even though it has a fairly capacity and is butt ugly.

I do love me some 45's, and that's a nice collection you have there.

Deepsouth, do you load your own 45 Super or are you shooting factory?

I haven't tried loading anything hotter than some 200gr bullseye loads in 45. I've loaded alot for my other calibers, didn't start loading 45acp until I picked up a revolver in the caliber.

But I like the idea!

I don't like chasing brass!

The only thing I ever shoot 45 super in is the 25-2, and then only when hunting. So I just bought a couple boxes from Buffalo Bore a few years back, they are pretty stout. If you're going to hunt with a .45acp, and the gun will handle them, I'd definitely pick up a box.

Favorite .45s...let's see:

Short answer: all of them.

My 3 top favorites are a Colt 1917, S&W 1917, and a shaved Webley MkVI.

And FWIW, I load .45 Super for my Enfield .45 Carbine.

I like all my 45s but if I had to pick a favorite it would be a tie between my Wilson Classic and my S&W 625.

  • Any well made 5" M1911 - I currently have Springfield, Colt, and formerly Norinco.
  • Springfield MicroCompact - Don't have one, but a friend does. I'd have bought one if they were still in production.
  • Citadel 3.5 CS 3.5" M1911 - Bought one a few months ago; my new carry gun.
  • S&W Model 25-2 - Easier to shoot than my S&W Model 14 and just as accurate.
  • Colt New Service - I have a "Franken-gun" with [apparently] a .45 Colt barrel and a .45acp cylinder.

I have three and I like them all.

1: Springfield Armory Model 1911 A1
2. Stoeger Cougar 8045
3. SIG Sauer P320 full-size

Apparently ,like a lot of guys here, my answer depends on what is at hand at the moment.

Let us just say I like the basic 1911 lay out but thing SiGs are a hoot as well.

I do want the one that got away. Buddy needed cash in a hurry and I had none in college (GI bill don't leave a lot of extra gun cash).

He sold to a classmate his Combat Commander in brushed nickel finish that had been to see Bob Day in San Antonio, Tex at the old Powder Horn Gun Shop where it got S&W style rear sight and a nice ramp front and a going over by Bob Day. Fitted a nice barrel bushing and barrel link and touched up the trigger a bit as I understand it. That thing could shoot. Kid that bought it ended up commissioned in Armor and I was told later was never seen in his M60A3 without that gun in a GI "shoulder holster" for all to see. I would have been proud of it as well.

My bright nickel Colt Combat Commander (limited run from Colt's Custom Shop), was the one that got away but by some wheelin' and dealin' I managed to get it back!

Sold it to a friend of mine when I needed the cash but received the right of first refusal if he ever decided to sell or trade it. Years went by and eventually I heard he was interested in one of the new Colt Officers Model. Just so happened I had one and along with an old Walther P1 in trade I got my Combat Commander back. Well worth it because it's incredibly reliable and extremely accurate.

I find the caliber maybe not the best for any single given task, but appropriate for most uses.

There's not a whole lot that a 230-250gr bullet at 800-1000 FPS won't do, and (given an appropriate launching platform) most shooters can handle it. No fancy high tech hollow points needed typically either. A good SWC is usually enough

I love my 44's but they're over some shooters threshold. If factory ammo was readily available at a similar price point and power factor as 45acp, I feel it would be a MUCH more popular cartridge. As it stands, it's mostly a handloaders cartridge at this point.

But when I don't feel like loading a bunch of ammo or feel like taking out a semi-auto, I'm really happy to have my 45's.

I do load for my 45's. but the heaviest load I've gone so far is a 200gr SWC over 4.3gr Bullseye. The first time I shot the pictured Kimber I took two magazines to get comfortable with, and then put the next 3 magazines worth of that load into one baseball sized hole at 10yrds. With no hiccups, I'm very happy with it.

I want to try experimenting with some 45 Supers/460 Rowlands, I'm considering putting new sights on the Norinco and having it converted to 460 Rowland and keeping my Kimber as my "Normal" 1911.

My favorite .45's are,,,

My favorite .45's are,,,
The ones owned by someone else. :neener:

Seriously,,,
I enjoy shooting the occasional .45,,,
But I have no desire to own one of my own.

I keep a box of .45 ACP in my range ammunition bag,,,
So if a range buddy has one that intrigues me,,,
I can ask to shoot it a bit at no cost to him.

Wow, you guys have some very nice stuff. Especially Chuck R! Love those SAA's.

I have a couple, but my favorite is my para ordnance p14.
Holding it, you know dãmñ good and well that you are holding a real pistol. And if its on empty, it may make a decent club, or jackstand.
