I had a hankering for a Colt Defender a couple of years ago and went to a local shop to check one out. Right next to it in the case was a 90's vintage Colt Compact with a nice Pachmeyr wraparound on it, for $550. I bought that one. Unlike all my other 1911s (SA standard, Ruger standard, RIA compact, Citadel standard), it has never had a malfunction. When I carry a .45, that's the one I carry. I'm not a fan of the plastic trigger and mainspring housing, and may one day make changes, but it sure works!

Well, I built the Commander-size .45 with the extended barrel in 1975 and used to carry it daily. Now, I usually carry the XDs.
The revolvers are just for fun.
The Witness is unreliable and EAA refuses to work on it (bastards!).
The top right 1911 is an Argentine pistol that I rebuilt into the most accurate of them all.
The suppressed XD is my SHTF home-defense gun.
The older 1911s and the Ballester-Molina don’t get shot much.
My favorite? Too many choices!

Ruger P97
Ruger P345

My old Mark IV pin gun is my favorite, and right behind is my daily carry, for over a dozen years, a Kimber Ultra CDP II. Here they both are, surrounding my Delta Elite, my 1911 trio.

I have a Colt and a S&W model 1917 and a Kahr CW45, but the one that gets carried the most is a 100 year old S&W .455 Hand Ejector MKII that's been customized just a wee bit.

Kimber Pro Carry II, S&W 625, Blackhawk 45C/45ACP convertible.
Also two I gave to my kids, a Blackhawk 7 1/2" 45C and a Norinco 1911 that I much modified for pin shooting. Actually got to shoot them today (nice kids. let me shoot their guns with my ammo)

The two on the left get the most time in a holster. The two on the right, need grip adapters and new stocks but they also get target time.

They area all chambered for the ACP cartridge.

StrawHat,

Those are neat. I do wish M1917 S&W were cheap enough to hack up these days.

Another of those college days guns that got away, shoot did not make it to the boat, was a "Post Office" Colt 1917 another kid had and wanted a whopping $65 in 1979. I was thinking Fitz Special hard as I could go before someone convinced me that was "too much for that old piece of junk". There are times I wish my knees worked backwards so I could give myself a quick kick in the fundament.

As it was I got one of the Brazil contract S&W 1917s for $165 about ten years later and then decided to leave that alone. Odd thing, dealer bought three of those things at once and believe it or don't one of them was a triple lock. No idea how or why and yes it had the Brazil coat of arms on it and no I did not get that one.

Iggy,

Why am I suddenly thinking about giant rolling boulders and snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?

That is a spiffy carry gun. Though I can see wearing both a belt and suspenders with it.

stu1riter,

Nice auto.....but now I have to go see the Bishop about coveting thanks to your picture of that C1917 with those sights!

If that thing shoots anywhere near as good as it looks that would be one match winner!

entropy,

If you survive first contact with the enemy then to some extent the plan worked. I'm just saying.....

C5rider,

Is that an old Commando Arms Mark whatever? I always wondered if there was someway to clean up the trigger pull on those things.

That was my first thought too. :)

Springfield Champion .45 (extremely reliable in any condition), and the Kahr .45 (also reliable but does not like hollow points. Shoots ball ammo all day long without a hitch).
The Springfield Champion is about as reliable as they come. These 2 are my favorites.

Greetings
All caliber 45's are tops. But to get to one each Tough but
Revolver double action.. Dan Wesson 45 Colt with a 4 inch barrel
Revolver single action.. Ruger Black Hawk 5.5 inch barrel
1911.. 1943 Remington Rand similar to one carried while in Germany
Single Shot.. TC 45 Win. Magnum 10 inch barrel

I'm happy with both my Taurus PT 1911 and Para Ordnance stainless expert 1911. Taurus might be a bit more accurate, but I like the stainless finish. Both are 100% reliable.
